Cheap and effective way to hunt for northern lights. We managed to catch them just as we were heading back to Reykjavik.
We did this trip on our first night and we did see the northern lights. Our tour guide as excellent and kept us out until we got to see the lights. It was a long trip but well worth it.
Be prepared for a long bus journey but if you are lucky enough to see the lights it is worth every minute!
This tour was great because the guides were REALLY focused on getting us to see the lights. We were out till 2am which was really long and tiring after a while but I know they just wanted everyone to experience the lights as much as they could.
Great tour. Apa? our guide and Torie our driver were excellent. We went out on a cold wet cloudy night with not much hope of seeing the lights but Apa was upbeat saying we will find a break in the clouds. Two buses went out together and we drove and stopped a number of times looking for the lights. The lights were visible behind the clouds if you had a DSLR camera on a tripod, you could see the green. At 11.00pm the other bus decided there would be no lights and left for Reykjavik but Apa felt we should wait a little longer. Eventually we had to head back but went a different route. 5 mins later she saw a ribbon appearing, the driver found a spot to stop and we saw the most fantastic display, it went on for at least 30 mins. Apa said it was the best she had seen in a long time and Torie rated it a 9.5 out of 10. We would not have seen the lights without the perseverance of Apa and Torie and would like to thank them for an outstanding night. Others I spoke to later in the week had been out on the same night, one on the boat, and had not seen anything. It was very cold so rug up warm.
Although we were unfortunate not to view the Northern Light the Staff could not have did anymore to make this trip more successful and offered a return trip for another night
Guides worked hard to get us viewing of lights, multiple locations attempted.
Tour guide was great, restaurant we waited at had a great atmosphere. Missed the northern lights, but the stars were amazing.
Spectacular! The best lights of the season. The tour guides knew to wait it out, even though some in our group were getting restless.
The tour war excellent and we were very fortunate to see a marvellous display.
We were so fortunate to catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights against the Milky Way in mid April. Awesome!
Unfortunately, due to inclement weather, this tour was cancelled. The tour company was wonderful in providing a full refund and suggesting other tours we could sign up for. Providing five stars due to the wonderful customer service...can't be mad at Mother Nature!
The bus ride to the site was about 45 minutes and when we arrived we were treated with the northern lights just starting to dance around the sky. It's hard to describe the beauty. We stayed maybe 2 hours and were not disappointed as they continued to entertain us the whole time. Our tour had a photographer, he took many great shots and his prices are reasonable, 25.00 US. There is a small museum that had a bar open for drinks.
Excellent and we were very fortunate to see the Northern Lights on one of the best nights of the year
It was so much fun! The Northern Lights weren't very bright this night but our tour guide waited for as long as possible at the venue to give us the best experience and hopefully see them dancing. Unfortunately, they didn't end up coming out later in the night but she gave us so much great information and tips!
Dress warmly--it gets super cold and it's a late night. There's a little convenience store where you can buy coffee/hot chocolate but it gets packed once the rest of the buses show up.
Northern Light is a natural phenomenon, hence the visible is not always guaranteed. But we were lucky to witness this. It was visible to naked eyes very lightly. For better view one needs to look thorough camera lens. Tripod is must if you wish to take pictures with your DSLR camera. It is impossible to shoot a northern light picture with smart phone or DSLR without Tripod.
Tips : For those who dont have tripod, try to base your camera in a still base car top, dustbin, handrail etc
It was a long cold night and it seemed we were on the bus forever, but it was all worth it. The Northern Lights are magnificent! The driver and the guide were very nice and made the trip as enjoyable as they could possibly could have.
This was one of the highlights of the trip. Mother nature cooperated for the first time in 2015.
Interesting to see the wilderness up in the highlands.
Good driving throughout and guide spoke excellent English .
Excellent again could not fault, we did not think we were going to see them and we stood outside in the blistering gale force freezing cold winds but we went into the light house and we were the only people left outside after 2 hours eventually the cold was too much and we popped back on the bus and as we were literally about to drive off somebody mentioned the lights and we all ran off the bus and could not believe my eyes. Thank you to the lady who talks about the stories on the journey I thought she was very sweet
