This was a fun and relaxing way to get from Frankfurt to Duesseldorf. We took the first half of the tour where all the castles are, got off at Koblenz and then caught a train the rest of the way north. The second half of the tour is through more industrialized areas. We suggest that you purchase additional information on the castles; there are maps of the Rhine and its castles available at many of the ports, for example. The narration on the boat is good but leaves you wanting more and is sometimes hard to hear if everyone is talking. Bring a windbreaker and a hat. It was chilly in the morning and then sunny and very hot by 10 AM. Bring snacks, too, if you want to eat up on the outdoor deck.

The booking, online ticket printing and easy acceptance by the agent at the gang-plank was simple and convenient. It worked just as we all hoped internet booking should go! We had great weather, the food on board while limited, was good and not overly expensive. The choice of beer and wine was likewise. In short, the trip from Mainz to Koln was great and gave us a good orientation for the weeks drive we subsequently took along the shore.

We really enjoyed this trip. The highlight is the stretch from Mainz to Koblenz - Koblenz to Koln is more industrial. The full trip does take 12 hours, but full food and drink is available on the entire journey.

It was a great trip going towards Koblenz; everything was perfect. However, on the way back to Mainz, things didn't go so smooth. The boat was 50 minutes late, and we arrived back in Mainz at 21:15, rather than 19:30 as scheduled. If you're driving home, make sure the parking garage doesn't close before 22:00; otherwise your vehicle may be stuck in Mainz overnight.

Thoroughly enjoyed the trip from Mainz down the Rhine. We had expected castles but not the number nor their splendid setting. A relaxing day where we could just sit back and enjoy the views as we passed by.

The Rhine is beautiful! Be sure to get your hands on a schedule of arrivals and departures from each stop beforehand. We didn't, and it messed our plans up a bit.

This is a good day trip, but you must be able to devote entire day. The ship departed Mainz at 8:45 a.m. and did not arrive in Cologne until approximately 8:00 p.m. However, once on the ship, I found that the timetable did not allow one to get on and off at any particular destination.

The cruise was very nice. The only improvement I can think of would be for me to check the weather reports and make sure it wasn't going to rain on my date.
