In the afternoon, head to Rio de Janeiro’s Ipanema Beach – made famous by the popular bossa nova song “Girl From Ipanema” – where you will meet your friendly local guide and tour group. Then, hop on your bike and follow the wavy tile path that borders the sand toward Two Brothers Mountain (Morro Dois Irmaos).
When you reach Allah’s Garden (Jardim de Alah), a small park situated around a water channel, continue along the canal that separates the beaches of Ipanema and Leblon. Your guide will lead you to Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon (Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas), a large lake surrounded by the most upscale neighborhoods of Rio, including Lagoa, Leblon, Gávea and Jardim Botânico.
Enjoy a leisurely bike ride on the 4.4-mile (7.2-km) circular path around the lagoon, where rowing teams have competed since the end of the 19th century. You’ll pass three parks with sports complexes, stopping along the way to hear from your guide about the rivalry of Rio´s soccer (futebol) clubs – now the most popular sport in Brazil.
Ending your tour as the sun sets, admire the gold reflection on the silent waters of Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon. Framed by granite peaks and embraced by the Christ the Redeemer (Cristo Redentor) statue atop Corcovado, the camera-worthy views are breathtaking!
