Read what other Viator.com travelers think about the Rio de Janeiro Combo Tour: Santa Teresa, Corcovado Mountain and Santa Marta Favela. What they loved, what they liked and what they think could be improved, it's all here to help you make the most of your next trip.
Excellent tour - comfortable transportation, and Alex was a great tour guide - very knowledgeable about the history of Brazil and had a great, good-natured sense of humor - especially when talking about football with a couple of German tourists! The Favela was a real highlight!
This really was a great way to experience more than just the tourist traps of Rio. Daniel was fantastic - passionate about his city and guiding. It was a bonus that along the way we met many people who knew Daniel personally which really added to the authenticity - I felt like a local rather than a tourist. Getting around via public transport built my confidence to do it on my own for the rest of the week. It was great to visit Santa Teresa although this was the first stop of the day and everything was closed.
Not just a walk by The Favelas, but actually walking into them. A real interesting place. Had great weather in August.
LOVED LOVED LOVED this Tour. You definitely feel like a local during this tour. you get the real deal of the real RIO. Our Tour guide Ivan is the best! he was very detailed and patient with us. this is definitely a MUST DO!!!!! be prepared to do alot of walking but it is totally worth it. i learned so much.
Thank you so much IVAN!!!!!
It's a informative tour and we got a pretty cool sunset at Chist the Redeemer.
It was a fantastic tour! We were a small group of 4 people, so it was perfect to get around the city. No need to wait for 20 more people to go to the bathroom or pay at the souvenir shop...it was frustration-free, compared to regular tours! It actually felt more like we were a group of friends visiting the city the way locals do by bus, subway and on foot, rather than a big group of tourists moving around in a tainted window bus.
Our guide, Daniel, was wonderful! He knows everything about the city, the spirit and way of life of Carioca and is a good story-teller with a perfect English and French.
The time spent at each location was well-balanced, we got to get a good feel of each neighborhood.
As regards the amount of walking, it's not too much, although we use public transportation. Someone in our group was wearing flip flops and he managed pretty well. But it'll be more comfortable in walking shoes especially if the lift in Santa Marta is under maintenance and you have to go up on foot!.
worth every single penny spent
I would recommend this to everyone
Fantastic tour! Enjoyed every bit if it. A little bit on the pricey side but it's well worth it for the great insight you get into life in Rio. Loved the fact that public transport is used and got so many good tips from our guide Daniel. Highlight of our trip!
Ivan the guide was amazing! He was full of local information and made the whole tour exceptional! Well done to him and the tour company....make sure you wear good shoes....I wore flip flops and my feet were very sore by the end of the day....my own fault!

Although the duration of this tour was long (9am-6pm), it was comprehensive and educational. We never felt rushed, even stopping for water every chance we had on a 100 degree F, 90% humidity day. Lots and lots of steps and uneven streets on this tour. Alex and Evan were great!
Excellent tour. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and personable. He was also able to get us through the long line ups at Christ the Redeemer and had us back at a reasonable time.
We really enjoyed this tour. Daniel went above and beyond his duties to make sure we had a great time. I would highly recommend this tour as you get to really see the favela as well as a closer look at the city.
Daniel was great!!!! He was very attentive to the details and passionate about Brasil, it's history and culture. Had a great time, well worth it.
I highly recommend this tour. Our guide Daniel was great and informative. He didn't rush the tour at all, which I really appreciated. I really enjoyed navigating the public transportation and being within the city like a native. This is a great way to get used to the city and getting rid of any apprehensions you may have to travel around given everything everyone says about the city. As for the Favela, please do it! The people are really welcoming and you don't feel so awkward for visiting. There's also other favelas to visit. Once you see this one you'll want to explore the others so keep that in mind. Santa Teresa was also a great town to visit. Wish the trolley was operating, but also good to know the history and controversy of the accident which occurred there.
The highlight of the trip. Informative and packed. Lots of walking at a moderate pace.
An excellent tour with very knowledgable and friendly guides. The walk through the favela was really interesting and not to be missed. Beware though, it's not really suitable for anyone with knee or walking problems and this wasn't mentioned in the information.
Our guide Luiz was so awesome! He was knowledgeable, funny, and kept us on time! I mistakenly left a bag on the bus, and he was so great in helping me meet up with the bus the next day to recover it. I was really grateful!
Fantastic tour. Loved Daniel. Knowledgable, thoughtful, informative guide. The tour takes you to interesting parts of the city and brings you into the city by using local transport an diving into life as a local. Can't recommend it highly enough.
This was a great tour with a great guide with lots of warmth and heart. The day stared out at 9 AM and went until about 4 PM. The guide was informative and honest. He spoke English very well and hew was a smart local man. This was by far one of the best tours I have every experienced in any city the size of Rio. Every part of the tour was exceptional, no hands down. I highly recumbent this tour and this tour company.
Excellent tour. The Favela tour was excellent! Getting to see Christ the Redeemer was great! The art shops in Santa Teresa was a treat!
