Useful Information
A water-spouting gargoyle in the Villa d'Este Gardens
Your friendly guide will show you a model creation of the villa 2,000 years ago. Using ideas from his travels around Europe, the Emperor Hadrian created the most lavish holiday home imaginable, with opulent Roman baths, temples and palaces alongside elaborate fountains nestled into every nook and cranny. Hear fascinating facts about the estate in its heyday from your guide and head into the grounds for a walking tour around the ruins and gardens.
Next, continue to Villa d'Este, the town's other equally impressive villa. Now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this former Benedictine convent is famous for its beautifully manicured gardens, Renaissance architecture and glorious fountains, not to mention its sheer size! Learn how when the villa was commissioned in 1550, local residents were forced to move out of the area to create space for the vast site -- almost a village in its own right.
After an introduction to Villa d'Este from your knowledgeable guide, spend time exploring the grounds independently. Be sure to remember your camera, as the gardens are often considered Tivoli's most picturesque spot!
Your guide will meet you back on the coach in time for a relaxing journey back to Rome. Arriving in the evening, you'll be back in time for your nighttime plans in Rome!

This was a great tour and what made it so was our guide, Georgia, who was animated and made you feel like she was telling the story for the first time about all the history of Hadrian and the lovely gardens of Villa d'Este. Hadrian's Villa is HUGE...another Roman experience that it is beneficial to have a guide that knows the ins and outs.
