Originally we had booked this tour for the Friday morning of our stay in Rome but when phoning to confirm 24 hours in advance of the trip we found out that we were the only 2 bookings and since a minimum of 6 was required it was cancelled !
Luckily we were able to reschedule to the Sunday morning slot and everything went very smoothly - they picked us up at our hotel as arranged and the trip itself was fabulous - our guide Giorgio was a former archaeology teacher and he really brought this ancient port to life during his guided tour. The physical pace of the tour was just right and we had a wonderfully informative and enjoyable half day - thanks Giorgio!

If you liked Pompeii you will enjoy this trip. If you've never been to Pompeii, well do this trip as a taster. The only problem is that it is too short. You are walking for a couple of hours in an archaeological site, so be prepared for that.
This is a look at the life of the middling and poorer groups of Rome, so don't be expecting a Colosseum!! What you will see are some good everyday mosaics in situ. You will see the remains of baths, a theatre, a forum and temples. as well as shops and toilets.
A highlight is the trading area of the town where the individual merchants' 'offices' are arranged around a forum with a temple in its centre.
As well as the domi of the more affluent citizens the insulae ,or lodging houses, of the poorer are here. Even Pompeii does not have these as well preserved.
If you want a morning out of the city away from the crowds, and to get a feel of the everyday life of Romans, then you will enjoy this visit.

As long as you are interested in walking around in ruins, this is a fantastic tour. Our guide was knowledgeable and passionate about history and archeology of the area, and a font of interesting details. He also had a good sense of humor and did his best to balance showing us as much as he could with finding us shade and keeping us cool on a very hot, sunny summer day. I both learned a lot and enjoyed a day out away from the rush and hubbub of Rome with a little bit of the sea breezes blowing in.

Loved our tour of Ostia. The ruins are amazing to see what was accomplished centuries ago without the huge machines used nowadays. Our guide Gorgio? was very knowledgeable and pointed out many things we would not have noticed without him. For instance, we did not know that Ostia translated to "Mouth"
