We really enjoyed this tour.
Massimo's presentation were very interesting. We have visited Pompeii on a number of occasions, but Ostia presents a very different picture. It benefits from the reduced popularity/notoriety as there is so much space to walk around without being bothered by crowds.
This was a great trip. Our guide Maximus was very good. We stayed after the tour to explore further and then travelled back on our own using the train tickets the guide had given us.
Great site. Great tour. The train was an excellent way to get there. The site is really interesting. Massimo, our tour guide was excellent. Good humoured, very good information and discreetly looked after us as we walked everywhere. Best experience on a guided site visit for years.
we were thinking of doing this trip on our own, via train and bus, but we were glad we took the trip. The site was amazing and covers a large area. Had we been on our own I think we would have wandered about for some time and missed the highlights. our guide knew exactly where to go and timed the 'tea break' exactly
This was a pretty cool tour. I was very bad at navigating that day so I arrived late and by calling back and forth to Dark Rome tours, I was able to still have the tour. Jo, the tour guide walked from where she was doing the tour to greet me at the front gate and even give me a tour on the way back to the group. This was extremely nice of her since it was my fault we were late. I can only say good things about our experience with the 2 Dark Rome based tours we went on (booked through Viator)
The tour was excellent, despite the rainy weather. Our guide was charming, very knowledgable and a gift for story telling which made the place come alive. We were lucky to have a small group of 10, all in all we had a great morning. LP
Gio the tour guide was amazing! Very friendly extremely knowledgeable. You can tell this is her passion. Ostia was beautiful definitely should see it. I would suggest NEVER come to Rome in July/August it's just too hot. If you can avoid those months the experience will be even better.
This was our favourite tour of the holiday. The guide was very engaging and knew alot about the history of Ostia. We were fascinated by the city and would definitely recommend booking a guided tour as if we had walked around on our own we would not have got as much out of it. The sights are fantastic, lots of photo opportunities and it really gives a sense of ancient Rome, much more so than the Roman Forum. There is a cafe where we stopped half way through the tour to refuel. There is a lot of walking involved, but it is broken up as we stopped (in the shade) to listen to information being given by the guide. A thoroughly enjoyable day, would definitely recommend.
Ancient Ostia was a lot of fun and interesting to learn about. My wife and I both liked our guide Gia, she was knowledgable and easy to be around.
We enjoyed the excursion and the guide was very informative. I would recommend this trip.
Excellent guide. He made it so interesting. He talked about the kind of people who lived there, what occupation they had, what kind of store they may have run, what they ate, daily hygiene habits, length of live, how they traveled, and how it was once a great city to trade in and how and when it changed. The ruins where so inspiring, one could imagine how it looked at the time. There are many ruins to see, and it would take most of the day to do it justice. The guide said it was his favorite place and you could certainly tell it was by his enthusiasm. I would recommend it to anyone. It was a unforgettable experience.
What a great place! Our guide Rachel is an archeologist and really knows her stuff, which made the tour even better. This tour really takes you back in time. It encouraged us to stay more than 2 hours after the tour was over and we would have stayed longer had it not rained. My only concern is that key parts of the site (eg mosaics) are not adequately protected against the weather. Don't miss it!
Great tour of Ancient Ostia. We were given every opportunity for questions and learned much of Ostia society and their way of life. Very well preserved city. Enjoyable walk with shade for those hot summer days. A very short train ride from Rome. We highly recommend this tour!
