It was OK, but could have been better

The transportation facilities were fine and on time and the guide in Orvietto did a good job, though his English was a bit difficult to understand and he wasn't quite loud enough.

However, I had some real problems with the rest of the trip. I was traveling with my frail eighty year old mother and the Assisi part had a lot of walking (which we weren't expecting). The tour guide was very poor - we couldn't hear her and she left us and made no attempt to keep the group together. Finally, we were misled at the farm shop. We were told that we could bring the sausage/meat products into the US but they were confiscated by customs.

The guide's English left a lot to be desired. Many other tours had listening devices, but we didn't.

As many reviews I read about this tour I do agree with them. You try to do to many things and then we could not enjoy any. Not enough time in Orvieto or Asissi. Lunch was a not good at all. You state typical Tuscan food but a cheap pasta and bland piece of meat is not typical. Get rid of the lunch at the winery and do lunch in Asissi then spend more time in Orvieto and the afternoon in Assisi. The week before we did a tour from Florence to Tuscany, Siena, San Gimignano, that was terrific. Lunch was a great spread, salami, parma, cheeses, pastas.

Beautiful country, but this was mostly an unescorted tour. Our guides did nothing much beyond actually identifying the places we stopped to visit and pointing us to the entry door. They marched us through the streets at top speed, when it would have been a real pleasure to stroll and appreciate these little mountain top villages and learn something about their history. We were left on our own to see whatever we could see and to learn whatever we could learn on our own not much.

Getting to see these two towns was absolutely worth taking this tour, but we do not recommend this tour. Once back in Rome, the tour guides were among the first to leave the bus. They left us and four other couples with a driver who spoke Italian. We thought it was very uncaring and dangerous for the company not to request that the tour guides stay on the bus until the end of the trip.

Unfortunately very ordinary experience from the pick up to drop off.

Apparently the driver could not find me at my hotel. I waited for him 40 minutes and the bus left without me. The next day I took the Capri tour.
