Enjoyed relief of air conditioned bus and smaller crowds. Guide was talented at blending ancient historical significance with comparisons to modern day situations. Bonus of seeing ruins of an acquaduct and walking on Appian Way were great.
This is a different type tour. Very informative and interesting. In addition to seeing the catacombs no bodies you get to walk the Apian Way - very cool. The Aqueducts were also amazing. Highly recommended.
The tour guide was pleasant and knowledgeable about the history of early Christian practices, the engineering of the Appian Way and Aquaduct system. Truly a pleasant experience and recommended. Mercifully, the tour bus was air conditioned, and the driver was excellent.
Very nice tour, small bus, few people, nice guide... everything went smoothly and calmly.
Jeanette was our tour guide! Fantastic is all I can say. She raved about on Trip Advisor and boy were they right. From start to finish she was funny, fully of really interesting facts and knew everybody's name. I went on my own with 2 LA film producers and a lovely family of 4 from Washington. It was a great trip and the crypts were incredible really incredible.
I would advise anyone to go on it. There was very little walking but lots to see and take photos of. I would give it 10/10 if I could.
Another great halfday tour. Our tour guide was phenominal. She was very knowledgable and memorized all the names of the people in our approx 20 people group. She even found a way to incorporate everyone's jobs and lives and related to centuries ago. Extremely good information.
A really enjoyable tour interesting to see inside the Catacombs and the original Appian way we had a great tour guide who gave us plenty of information about Roman life and death. All in all a good trip.
What really made this tour awesome was our tour guide, Janet. She was remarkable she made sure to remember all our names and included us in the history story that she was telling us. She was not only extremely knowledgable about all aspects of the tour but had a great sense of humour. We had some dominant personalities on our tour and she handled them with such class. One of the best guides we have ever come across. Thank you Janet.
Splendid tour guide, an young American expat who studied Italian history and now lives in Rome. Entertaining and fun throughout. Not much walking as such but nice to get out of the hot city and see some different things.
The guide was great-- there were 12 of us in the group and she got to know all of our names. Her commentaries about the catacombs were very insightful.
We had Jeannette as our guide on the tour. I thought that the tour was one of the best tours in Rome I had on this visit. The history of catacombs is fascinating and Jeannette made it even more interesting by actively engaging the group in the discussions and making the history come alive. I like the coupling of the dark underground catacombs part with the sun-filled short field trip to the countryside and Appian Road as well as a comfort of an air-conditioned bus on a hot summer day. My teenage children also enjoyed the tour.
I highly recommend this tour. Our tour guide was so energetic, funny, and informative. The catacombs were very interesting and the aquaducts were beyond words...amazing! Although the history of the Appian Way is extraordinary, the original stones from the Appian Way are few, so it was a little disappointing. I expected to see a whole road of original stones, but there were only a few. I would still highly recommend this tour.
Janet our tour guide was great! Very knowledgeable and animated. She learned all our names and provided us with great information in a way we could easily relate to. We took a nice bus with a/c. Could've used a little more time at each stop, but still enjoyed it immensely.
Good mix of bus and walking. Very informative and entertaining guide.
Highly recommended visit. Great visit of catacombs as well as as via appia and the viaduct in the Roman countryside. A welcome escape from the city. Lovely guide Inger gave a perfect overview with just the right amount of information about the history of the places. 3 hour visit was just right for a whistle stop tour.
I was VERY IMPRESSED with our tour guide, Jeanette. She actually was the highlight of this tour. Honestly, it was cool to see the Catacombs and Roman Countryside, but she brought it to life. Honestly, the Catacombs have nothing to really look at except the empty areas where the bodies used to be buried. Jeanette brought the whole tour to life by relating life back then to life right now. She memorized everyone's names and got to know each one of us individually and then incorporated all of us into her stories. She was engaging to the tour group from the minute we started to the very end. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED IF YOU HAVE JEANETTE AS YOUR TOUR GUIDE!!!!!!!!!!!
This tour was a wonderful way to combine the catacombs, a walk along the Ancient Appian Way and see an Roman aqueduct up close all within a morning. I don't think there is any way we could have done these three things on our own so easily.
A most knwledge and enthusiastic guide - a PhD in archeology. Amazing how the catacombs made use of its space and of the art to acknowledge the deceased. A must see!
Excellent tour. Excellent guide. Jeanette shared her knowledge of art and history in the most interesting way possible. Thank you.
This tour was fantastic. We had an American as a tour guide. She knew a lot of interesting facts about everything we saw and was charming and joked around a bit about the history making it really interesting.
A wonderful experience. Our guide was very knowledgeable and passionate about the history. Fun and informative!
Lovely tour the catacombs are very interesting and our Guide gave us lots of information about the place, those who were buried there and much, much more. The frescoes are amazing not huge but still works of art worth seeing. I found the aquaduct of Claudius amazing, I have taught about this so to touch, see, was a real treat. The guide made our tour interesting, and informative and we would recommend this tour
