It was OK, but could have been better

My grandparents went on the same tour and had a great time. We also had a great time but it could have been better because the guide spoke three to four languages at a time and since we were the only English speakers, we got the most brief explanation. He was very friendly but he got confused during the tour and thought that I was Spanish so half of the time all we heard was Spanish. Also there was a German couple and the guide could only speak basic German so the husband and wife looked very angry at first, it put a damper on the tour. Also the guide didn't tell us many things about the Churches we visited. My wife looked in her guide book afterwards and said to me 'Oh, you know that Church we went to, well it had the heads of .... there'. On a better note, the catacombs were really really good. The guide here was excellent (different guide). To finish up, if you want to see Christian Rome, I'd suggest saving your money by not taking this tour and taking the yellow 'Christian Rome' tour bus. It's like the hop on and hop off Rome open top bus.

The Catacombs were very worthwhile and the guide that guided us there was great. However, the tour of Santa Maria Maggiore was not as worthwhile. The guide kept switching back from English to German and that did not make sense. The catacombs, though, made it worthwhile.

We thoroughly enjoyed the visit to the Catacombs of Domitilla. We couldn't figure out what happened to the Appian Way. I expected actually walking on a part of this. All we saw was from the coach window, and to be honest, if the guide hadn't pointed it out we wouldn't have been any the wiser. The view of the baths of Caracalla was from the coach window and totally obscured by trees. Too much time was spent in the two churches. Altogether, it was rather disappointing.

The guide would name an attraction and not describe it or tell us anything about it. She took the tour into a live church service, embarrassing everybody. She began to chit chat with the driver about herself and her apartment, and why she needed a roommate, leaving nothing said to the tour group for five minutes at a time.

The only part of this tour worth doing is the catacombs which are truly brilliant but the guide for the catacombs is provided by the catacombs. The other sites are also well worth seeing but not with the tour as you are forced through at a ridiculous pace and go at the time of the day when access to Santa Maria Maggoire is restricted. Go and see the other sites on your own.

You have about ten minutes in the Catacombs in which you are very quickly shown around. The rest of the time you are quickly driven by all the different sights, with a guide quickly telling you what it is, but not even giving you time to take a photo. We spent more time looking in one of the churches at the end of what was suppose to be a three hour trip, which was in fact a one-hour trip with thirty minutes wasted at the last church in which you are left to find your own way back to the hotel, or from where the tour began.

Skip it. You should check out "Catacombs and Roman Countryside Rome Walking Tour" instead. It is much better.

The actual stop at the catacombs was good, because we had a guide from the catacombs. The other guide who took us on the bus tour was very disappointing, and we had to listen to all the information about the places we were visiting in several languages. When I booked the tour I thought it was an English-speaking tour. Very disappointing except for the catacombs!

The only good part of this trip was the catacombs. We had too large a group, and so could hardly see anything in the catacombs. The guides didn't even know to turn on the lights in the church so we could see the paintings above the altar. Also, the guide spent more time talking in Spanish than in English.
