What You Can Expect
Inside, wander the vast complex of galleries and rooms that house the world’s largest collection of art. Your guide will introduce you to the highlights, including, of course, the Sistine Chapel, where you can gaze in wonder at Michelangelo’s famous ceiling fresco, The Creation of Adam. Then visit neighboring St Peter’s Basilica (where you’ll also skip the line) to see another famous Michelangelo piece, his La Pietà sculpture, before heading out to St Peter’s Square.
Next, you’ll be transferred into Rome’s historical center, where you have a break to buy lunch (own expense); your guide can offer recommendations about local restaurants. Then continue your exploration of the city, checking out iconic landmarks like the Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, Piazza Navona and the Pantheon. You’ll end your tour at the Colosseum, where your skip-the-line ticket once again allows you to go directly inside without waiting in the main entrance queue. Walk along the ancient amphitheater’s main level, and learn about the gory gladiator battles and other events that make up its bloody history.
Your day tour ends with the drive back to Civitavecchia so you can catch your cruise ship.
Note: Your private guide provides commentary about Rome and its iconic sights throughout the day. If you have any special interests, such as architecture, art, culture or history, please provide this information at the time of booking so your guide can best prepare for your private tour.

Our driver Simon and our guide Raphael were both amazing. We were able to tour the Vatican extensively see Trevi Fountain, The Pantheon and tour the Coloseum. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and provided in depth information for all locations. This was my third time to Rome, but learned more in one day than on week long stays. Most ship sponsored tours have up to 50 people trying to follow one guide through extremely crowded places, while we were able to move quickly and see exactly what we wanted. An expensive tour, but well worth the money.
Very informative as well as beautiful. It's a tough day but well worth it. Our tour manager had a PHD and was awesome. His back ground was in Anthropology. We couldn't have asked for more.
David was an amazing guide. We had a fabulous day in Rome and were able to see the highlights in short order.
Our driver was friendly and professional. Our guide, Silvia was outstanding. She was very knowledgeable and passionate in her explanations. We had an amazing day.
What a wonderful tour! In retrospect it's hard to believe how much we got to see and learn in one day. Transportation to/from/within Rome was comfortable and on-time. Our tour guide, Sev, was simply outstanding. His incredible depth of knowledge and storytelling ability brought all the sites and, really, any part of Rome or Vatican City we discussed to life in new, interesting and compelling ways. If you're lucky enough to get Sev as your tour guide the only issue you'll struggle with is trying to figure out how to give a rating higher than five stars. Highly recommended. Thanks for a great day!
Our tour leader was so knowledgeable and helpful. Really enjoyed the tour.
Our guide, David, was a veritable font of knowledge, and his passion for Rome really came through. Plus, he was very accommodating of our children, always making sure to find shady areas, and plenty of breaks for ice cream, water, and bathrooms. An unforgettable day.
The best tour I have ever been on in my life, and that is saying a lot. We had a guide that spoke English better than most native English speakers I know. Our guide had a PhD in archaeology and knew art history so well that there were things that she could point out that we would never have picked up on if we visited Rome a hundred times. A private tour is more expensive, but you get to see what you want to see when you want to see them at your pace without having to wait on anyone. No wasted time waiting in lines. If you are going to go all the way to Rome, this is definitely worth it.
The tour guide was amazing. She engaged everyone on the tour. There is so much more to see but we saw enough to get a taste of Rome
Booked private tour for family of 6. Would highly recommend a private tour if you're short on time and haven't visited this area before. We talked w/others on our cruise that did public transportation and they struggled w/heat and crowds. We had a clean, comfortable van that our driver maneuvered right up to the spots we needed to go which is no small feat in Rome. Got to pack the most into our short time in this spectacular city.
About the tour.. We had a bit of confusion on where to meet the driver. In hindsight, the instructions were clear that we should meet outside the port terminal, but when we got off the ship we saw other drivers at the gangway. Being new to the tour process and thinking maybe something changed, we waited at this spot. After a bit and no driver, we called the local contact and found out where to meet up. We took the shuttle and found him, but had lost an hour by the time we got going. We wound up getting everything done, but felt a little stress early on. A note in the tour instructions that some drivers will be by the ship, but yours will be at the terminal would prevent this. Once on the road, we were able to talk w/our guide, David, and settled in for the drive. We elected to tour St. Peter's Basilica, the Sistine Chapel, Pantheon, Piazza Narvona, Trevi Fountain, Colosseum outside only and the Forum. David did a great job of adjusting the tour as we wanted, getting us past the long lines this alone is worth the price of the tour, and sharing his knowledge of the history and important points at each stop we made. He was very knowledgeable, personable, and his English was excellent. He also took us by a take-away sandwich shop down an alley by the Pantheon that was wonderful. By the end of the day, we were very tired but had been able to see all the things we wanted to see. Our driver got us back to the ship in plenty of time so even though we got off to a rough start, the tour was everything we had hoped.
