What You Can Expect

Pompeii and Amalfi Coast Small Group Day Trip from Rome

See Pompeii on a day trip from Rome!

Your Amalfi Coast tour starts as you depart Rome by minivan for the drive south into the Campania region of southern Italy. This is a small-group tour with maximum of seven people per minivan, which ensures a personalized experience.

During the approximate 3-hour journey, your driver-guide will tell you about what to expect from the day. Then arrive at your first stop, the town of Amalfi, a former naval power now famous for its cliffside perch on the coast of the Tyrrenhian Sea. You have free time here to explore independently. Perhaps visit landmarks like the Cloister of Paradise (Chiostro del Paradiso), relax over a coffee or limoncello at a café (own expense) or take a walk to admire the Mediterranean architecture.

Next, head to Positano, stopping along the way for photo ops from the coastal road. Once again, you have free time in the village to get lunch (own expense) and explore on your own, enjoying views of the sea and hillside homes. Then meet back up with your guide to continue your day trip to Pompeii for a 2-hour guided tour of its World Heritage–listed ruins that were covered in volcanic ash from the eruption of Mt Vesuvius in 79 AD. As you explore with your guide, learn about the discovery of the ruins in the 18th century and hear stories about life in the village during the days of Ancient Rome.

Your day trip then ends with the drive back to Rome.

Beautiful trip! First of all, our driver was amazing! He was funny and very informative as he pointed out landmarks on the way to and from Amalfi/Positano. Amalfi is a must see. It's so unique and incredibly beautiful. However, for me, Pompeii was the highlight of the excursion. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and entertaining was he lead us through the most important ruins.

The Amalfi coast is a lovely part of Italy although its become quite touristy. Positano was the best part of the trip lunch at a restaurant on the shore, and wonderful backdrops for photos. Pompeii is the last stop and the guide gives you a thorough explanation of life in ancient Pompeii. explaining how the shops were set up, the methodology of the road construction, and of course a trip thru the brothels.

A great experience. Our driver, Max, was prompt, courteous, and provided just the right amount of commentary throughout the day. Made appropriate stops for photo taking. He did an excellent job of driving under not so easy conditions. The guide at Pompeii was extraordinary. His knowledge of the life and explanations of the village and the ruins were exceptional. Overall our expectations were met and in the case of the tour of Pompeii, our expectations were exceeded.
