What You Can Expect

Pompeii and Amalfi Coast Small Group Day Trip from Rome

See Pompeii on a day trip from Rome!

Leave your Rome hotel in the early morning, and head to the Campania region in the south of Italy. Your journey lasts around three hours, but your minivan is comfortable and air conditioned, and your driver-guide will explain the day’s itinerary on the way.

First stop is the picture-perfect town of Amalfi, on the luscious Amalfi Coast. Once a major naval power, the town is now known for its stunning coastal scenery; it clings to a jagged rock face looking down over the turquoise Tyrrhenian Sea. Enjoy free time here to stretch your legs on a walk around, admiring the town’s typically Mediterranean architecture, where houses seem to be built on top of each other as they straddle the hillside! Rest in one of the cafés and sample a shot of limoncello (own expense), or perhaps check out the Cloister of Paradise (Chiostro del Paradiso) -- an intriguing Arabian-style hamlet.

Continue by minivan to the neighboring village of Positano, passing along a stunning coastal road with stops peppered in for photo stops. Enjoy free time for lunch in the village (own expense), and to explore. Gaze in admiration at the white- and pastel-colored houses that smatter the hillside, and perhaps take a stroll along its perfectly groomed beaches.

Meet your guide at the pre-arranged time, and then head inland toward the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Pompeii -- the world-famous ancient village that lay buried under layers of volcanic ash for centuries. Explore the area with your guide on a 2-hour walking tour, documenting the site’s history from AD 79 when Mount Vesuvius erupted, to the early 18th century when it was ‘discovered.’ Hear history come to life with tales of ancient Romans who once lived here.

From Pompeii, return north to Rome by minivan. Your tour then finishes back at your hotel in the late evening.

What a great day we had. One of our favorites on our two week trip. Our driver was wonderful and informative. I'm very glad I did not have to drive the cutbacks as we neared Positano. Felt very safe with our driver. The Amalfi Coast is so beautiful and should be on everyone's list to do. Pompei was great. Our guide was very informative and made the tour very interesting. Was a long day but well worth it.

Really enjoyed the tour as felt tour guide very friendly and informative. We were transported in a modern mini bus, tour was well paced visiting places of interest along the Amalfi coast. We did our Pompeii tour at the end of the day when the weather was cooler and the crowds had left. Long day but well worth it.

We had a fantastic day on this trip - even though it was a long one! Our guide was really good, and it was well worth squeezing it all in. Would thoroughly recommend it :

We were collected at the hotel on time by our friendly driver. The guide was very knowledgable and friendly and gave us loads of tips on where to buy and what to see whilst on the trip. It was a long trip but we were prepared. Take loads of water as it gets very hot in Pompai and it is a very fast moving tour. You do not get to Pompai intil late afternoon which some of the people we shared the bus with we annoyed at but we thought it was great.
Well worth the money and i would advise anyone to go on this trip as we saw loads of views we would otherwise have missed!
