We very much enjoyed our private tour with Uberto on the Segway Tours in the gardens of the Villa Borghese. It was our last day in Rome after an exhausting 30 day whirlwind tour of Italy. At ages 68 and 70 we were a bit hesitant about trying our luck on the Segways. But Uberto proved to be an excellent instructor, and was very patient with me as I had to stop to sit and rest about every 30-40 mins. It was raining a bit and we wore our ponchos but barely got damp, and it was wonderful having the park nearly to ourselves on a rainy Monday. We never could have seen this lovely place up close and personal without the help of the Segways which proved to be easy to use and fun as well. We can hardly wait to take another Segway tour.
The Villa Borghese is a must see for any visitor and one of the cleaner and safer public places in Rome. However, it could take a good part of a day to visit it, unless you're on a Segway. We zoomed the park in the span of an early evening, and enjoyed the information deciminated by our guide, Uberto. This is a must do tour, if only to escape urban face of Rome.
The tour was great fun and very informative. Uberto is very knowledgeable and is a great guide. He put us at ease immediately and although we felt nervous at first we quickly gained confidence. The gardens are beautiful and this is a great way to see them. It poured with rain (in July?!!) but despite this we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Well worth doing - even in the rain!!
Best view of Rome.
What an absolutely brilliant trip. We visited the Colosseum at night, we toured the Vatican Museums, the Pantheon and walked all around Rome but the Segway through Villa Borghese gardens easily ranks as good as, if not better, than them.
This was a real highlight of our trip and Uberto, our tour guide, was great at telling us about the history not just of the gardens but also Rome itself.
Do yourself a favour and skip the main 'historical Rome' Segway trips - you will see all that anyway, and the history is right there front and centre, in the guidebooks, on placards/posters and descriptions against all the various monuments (or even just search online when you get there).
Villa Borghese is somewhere that most people coming to Rome will miss or barely glance at but it too is steeped in history, and whizzing around on the Segway not only gives your legs a bit of a rest from walking but it makes for a great way to see so much.
Halfway round, you stop for a cooling drink and a nice chat with the guide.
What's more, Uberto tops the whole tour off with the grande finale, what must be simply the best panoramic view of the entire city of Rome and Vatican City... climb the dome of St Peter's Basilica, or get to the top of the Palantine Hill and you end up missing part of the picture - go to Villa Borghese's stunning viewpoint and you get to take it ALL in.
Aside from the ice-cream, this is the best experience going in Rome. A brilliant way to get away from the hustle and bustle of the centre and at half the price of the other Segway routes, an absolute bargain if all you want is to try to ride a Segway (which is A LOT easier than learning to ride a bike... I'm not even sure it's physically possible to fall off!)
Outstanding family ‘fun time’ experience.
What a great and fun afternoon experience for a family of 5 (3 teenagers and 2 seniors over the age of 70)! Our family had ridden Segways before in other cities. Our guide, Uberto, gave us his full attention and willingly modified the tour stops and activities to meet the preferences of our family. For the American teenagers, this was a highlight of their trip to Rome. The adults in the group were very comfortable with the teenagers driving the Segways in the traffic-free environment of the Borghese Gardens rather than on the traffic-filled streets of Rome as offered by other Segway vendors in Rome. I would highly recommend this Segway tour for a family with teenagers who want to have a Segway adventure in a safe environment.
We had a great time with Umberto in the Villa Borghese. This is a great opportunity to get out of the hustle and bustle of the city and spend a few quiet hours relaxing in Rome's beautiful park on a Segway. Umberto was informative and fun. Highly recommended!!!
This is definitely the best way to tour Villa Borghese. It is a huge expansive park and would take forever to walk through on foot to see everything. Our guide was quite knowledgeable about the park and all its different monuments, fountains, and history in general. Really enjoyed this tour.
Our best tour in Rome. Loved the Segways and the beautiful park (perhaps the best city park I've ever seen). It was a nice change from seeing another church. You also avoid the crowds of the city. Very relaxing and our guide was very nice.
We throughly enjoyed our Segway tour with Roberto. His tour was very informative and he was able to teach even me how to ride a Segway. Can't believe how easy it was once you got the hang of it . Would definately do another! Lots of fun, thank you Roberto!
Deffinatly worth a go, fun, fresh and informative. Uberto was knowledgable about not just the park itself but the intricate history of Rome and all it has to offer, patient when teaching the ways of the Segway and a lively participant in conversation. Without Urberto's help we wouldn't have been able to glean any information about the park (don't rely on the signs, there are few and far between in regards to directions or information). Don't be afraid of the Segway, it's much easier than it looks and great fun. Would highly recommend this fabulous experience!
Having never been on a Segway before (my husband included) i can say we were very nervous when we first got on for our lessons. Uberto was excellent at talking us through how to balance and we comfortable very quickly as he initially kept us on flat even surfaces (seeing the Borghese Villa to start with). After that, it was amazing. He showed us the map of the park and explained how we would travel to all corners to see what each part of the park had to offer- and away we went! We never could have seen the entire park on foot and the history Uberto gave us at each notable stop was interesting and entertaining. He never once rushed us, and offered to take pictures whenever we wanted. We were absolutely thrilled with the entire experience and will recommend this to our friends as well!
It was great fun. Uberto was very patient in teaching us how to use the Segway. Once we got the hang of it we had such a great time. He was very knowledgable about the history of the vila and showed us all the attactions. Many thanks Maria, Giovanna and Derek
Great fun , Umberto , a terrific guide , it's a must !! Would certainly ride the segways again ! Thank you
