What You Can Expect

Rome by Night Walking Tour

Explore Rome's top attractions by night on your walking tour

Meet your guide in Rome’s Piazza Navona in the early evening then, with the daylight fading and the city lights flickering on, set off on foot to begin your tour. Widely considered one of the world’s most beautiful cities, Rome is home to a wealth of amazing history and heritage with new revelations around every corner.

Head first to the Pantheon, initially commissioned by Marcus Agrippa during the reign of Augustus (between 27 BC and 14 AD) then rebuilt by the emperor Hadrian in around 126 AD. Admire the nearby Trevi Fountain, an icon of Rome considered by many to be one of the city’s most impressive treasures.

Continue on to Capitoline Hill with your guide and explore the famous Roman Forum area, where the ruins of many Ancient Roman government buildings still stand. It was here, during the days of the Roman Empire, that public events such as criminal trials, market days and political rallies took place on a daily basis. Wander the Forum with your guide, and gain insight into the thousands of years of ancient history held within its decaying walls.

Conclude your tour at the world-famous Colosseum, dramatically illuminated against the dark night sky. Once capable of holding an estimated 80,000 spectators, this masterpiece of Roman engineering has been used over the millennia for events as varied as public executions, gladiatorial bouts, religious ceremonies and theatrical re-enactments of Classical mythology. Take a tour of the spectacular amphitheater’s imposing exterior and listen as your guide talks in detail of its fascinating history.

After three hours exploring Italy’s ancient capital, your tour concludes beneath the towering arches of the ancient Colosseum.

Please note:
Rome's Trevi Fountain is currently under restoration until late 2015. A walkway above the central portion of the fountain will allow you to catch a glimpse of the ongoing work. Water will be drained during the process, but you'll still be able to cast your coins into the fountain for luck.

Although we booked our night tour for the Monday evening after arriving on the Sunday the thought behind this was so get a feel for Rome at the beginning of our holiday however we received a tex advising the trip was cancelled and we could attend the next one which was on the Thursday evening. This did work out well as if we had done this tour early we would not have explored Rome as much as we did independently. Again the guide was second to known and know there history Clare was our guide and due to it being a small group head phones were not required. I would highly recommend booking through Viator

- our tour guide was very knowledgeable she is an archaeologist!
- group size was great, only 8 people including us
- appropriate short breaks to allow rest/photos, etc
- We enjoyed the walk about 2hrs
- by the time we stopped at Colosse, it is just sunset we were there in Jun, so sunset around 8:30ish, and lights are just on! perfect for night photography

Our guide's name was Felix, Art Hist PhD, and he was phenomenal. Knew an incredible amount about this city, it seemed like no question went unanswered. He also took us to great viewpoints, away from heavily touristic areas, which gave us a great opportunity to take in the cites. Additionally, he gave us a few breaks, not enough to be bored, but enough to rest our feet as it was quite a long time to be walking non-stop. And although it's in the evening, we ended right on time, so we were more than able to catch our metro. Had I had more cash, I would've tipped him more.

I would highly recommend anyone to take the tour, especially because it's in the evening so it had cooled down and the sites weren't as busy.

Wish I could rate Kiara our tour guide 10 stars. She was absolutely great! Rome was very hot during the time we went early July so booking a night tour was the best thing we could have done. Very interesting and informative.

Our tour guide was amazing! She's an archaeologist and gave the most detailed tour of the city- this was our first night in Rome and was an amazing way to start our trip. Rome is stunning at night- ending the tour in front of the Colosseum as the sun set was breath taking. I absolutely recommend it.

Our guide was great! Very knowledgably and fun. We took this tour the first night we were in Rome and it was a great way to get acquainted with the city. Highly recommend this tour! The evening was beautiful and the tour is done at a very leisure pace and the crowds were minimal.

Our guide was great! He was very friendly and spoke fluent English! The small group of 4 made it much better and made it easy to interact with the guide compared to some of the big tour groups I seen in Rome. The tour was very informative and made me understand Rome a lot more! Well worth the money!
