What You Can Expect
Inside, walk around the arena with your art history guide, listening to stories about the gory gladiator battles and other brutal events that once took place here. Then exit the Colosseum and walk over to Palatine Hill, stopping at the Arch of Constantine on the way. Walk up the hill, one of the Seven Hills of Rome, for a view of the Roman Forum and Nero’s Circus Maximus, where chariot races used to take place.
Finally, stroll along Via Sacra, aka ‘Sacred Way,’ the main road through the Roman Forum that connected the Colosseum to Capitoline Hill and was once used for Roman triumph ceremonies. Your tour ends here, from where you can continue exploring on your own.
Please note: As this is a private tour, your specialized art history guide can tailor the commentary to suit your interests. When booking, please list any special interests you have, such as architecture, art or culture, so your guide can prepare.
Our tour guide was very knowledgable and patient. I learned so much that had to do with the history of Rome, which could be applied to sites I saw later during my time in the eternal city. Worth every penny.
Davee was an incredible tour guide. We went all over and he took us to the top of the hill, and explained everything about each area. He was fun and engaging and we really enjoyed our time with him.
Traveling with two teenagers. I'm not kidding, this was worth EVERY PENNY!! Our tour guide, Vincenzo, was a student of restoration on the Colosseum and the Forum so he had little known facts and interesting information he'd learned in class. My teenage kids were walking next to him and asking him questions, he was so engaging. He took care of us too - found a way around a long line for immediate entry to the Colosseum. Case in point, it's almost 4 months later and I just asked my son the tour guide's name and without hesitation he said Vincenzo - he definitely made an impression!
This was a great tour. We didn and #39;t link what to expect as we did not have any specific request for our guide and just wanted to learn more about the history. We had Amanda as a guide and we totally recommend her! If you want The REAL story of the colosseum, learn what matters, this would be the tour!
Vencenzio was the best guide we could have asked for. His depth of knowledge was impressive and his ability to transfer that knowledge to us made the tour fantastic. We recommend this tour and especially Vencenzio to everyone.
Our guide was patient and knowledgeable. Passionate and enthusiastic. My mom is handicapped and used a walker on the tour and our guide was extremely patient and accomodating
Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and accommodating and her presentation of the history of the Colosseum and Ancient Rome made the physical evidence come alive.
Fabulous with unbelievable guide.
We were 2 couples and this was superb. Our guide, Angela, a local, was brilliant. She was easy to understand, helpful and friendly and open to what we wanted to see with excellent suggestions. We entered the Colosseum quickly through the express lane, despite there being long queues patiently waiting to get in.
She took us from the Colosseum to Palatine Hill and then the Forum. We found it a great way to see what we did as our stay in Rome was limited. With just 4 in the group, we moved far more quickly then we would have with a larger group. We are very happy we chose this way of seeing Ancient Rome
