What You Can Expect
Once inside the Colosseum, you will hear about the amphitheater's bloody past as you listen to tales of gladiators, mock sea-battles and executions. After a brief rest at the Arch of Constantine, you will arrive at the Palatine Hill, the most famous of the seven hills of Rome. From here you can admire the magnificent views of the Roman Forum and Nero's Circus Maximus where chariot races were held.
The last stop on your private walking tour is a stroll along the Via Sacra or 'Sacred Way', the main path through the Roman Forum that was used for triumphal processions.
This in-depth private tour of the Colosseum and Roman Forum is hosted by an English-speaking guide specializing in art history. Please list any special interests you have (art, architecture, history, culture) at the time of booking to alert your guide, so they can prepare for your private tour.
We were 2 couples and this was superb. Our guide, Angela, a local, was brilliant. She was easy to understand, helpful and friendly and open to what we wanted to see with excellent suggestions. We entered the Colosseum quickly through the express lane, despite there being long queues patiently waiting to get in.
She took us from the Colosseum to Palatine Hill and then the Forum. We found it a great way to see what we did as our stay in Rome was limited. With just 4 in the group, we moved far more quickly then we would have with a larger group. We are very happy we chose this way of seeing Ancient Rome
This tour was outstanding! Our tour guide, Irene, was an expert, having majored in art history at the university. During our walk, she helped us understand how the history of the area helped shape the present, and helped us imagine what it must have been like when the gladiatorial games were held in the Colosseum and the Caesars and Cleopatra, for example, walked the same paths we were. We did indeed manage to skip the lines with her help. This tour is a super value for anyone wanting to make the most of their Rome trip. I highly recommend it.
Learned a lot from a very knowledgeable guide.
Outstanding tour and tour guide. Extremely educational and enjoyable.
Highly recommend this one!
We had a great tour of the colosseum, forum and palatine hill with a private guide booked through Viator. Our guide whose name I unfortunately can't remember was a PhD in archaeology who had worked on some of the areas nearby so she was a real wealth of knowledge! The check-in process was flawless although on first glance it looked like kindof a nightmare with all the people waiting in line!, and we waited just a couple minutes to check in , then we were handed off directly to our guide with no other delays! Based on this tour, I would book again with this company without hesitation.
Elena was great! She spoke wonderful English and was extremely knowledgeable. She had. A great personality. Elena really made our first day in Rome special!
Great tour with a very knowledgeable and enthusiastic guide.
Luciano, our guide, knew just about everything about the Colosseum, the Pallatino, The Forum, and everywhere else we went in our 4 1/2 hour tour through ancient Rome.
We can not speak highly enough of his dedication to our interests, and attention to detail.
Everyone should take a tour of this nature, never mind that it is rather costly, it's certainly worth the cost.
Our was a private tour with Lisa!!! Wonderful very enthusiastic and entertaining!!
Tour guide was great! Saw lots of beautiful views and learned a lot about ancient Rome. Tour guide was very knowledgeable and very accommodating with flexibility in the schedule.
