Fabulous day in an ancient hilltop town with Monica and her asst Alicia. We chopped, we sipped, we kneaded, we sipped, we rolled, we sipped, we filled, we sipped some more! I am a good cook but I learned many new ways to make more delicious Italian dishes. Our lunch included bruscetta, pizza, stuffed tomatoes, raviolis, lasagna, veal saltimbocca, caprese salad, and lots of red and white wine. So worth every penny, thanks for a wonderful experience!
This was the highlight of our stay in Rome. Monica and her assistant Lisa were wonderful. The town was beautiful and the setting was just perfect. Food was amazing!
Excellent experience. While market is only open on Thursdays, Monica showed us how to shop in 2 small stores for everything we needed to make a 6 course lunch of simply delicious Italian food. We particularly enjoyed our group and had a ton of fun while we learned about Italian food. Have already tried one of the recipes at home - all recipes provided to you via Web! Note that I took my reluctant husband on this trip, and he describes this as one of his vacation highlight. Good for: couples, singles, foodies, not-so-foodies. Highly recommend this and/or the Rome version.
A simply wonderful day with Monica. A drive out to the country where we shopped for fresh ingredients. Then to the beautiful home where we made lunch. A truly magical experience with Monica making us feel very welcome, more like friends having a lovely day together.
Arriving in Rome, jet lagged, there is no better way to acclimatise that with a full day of concentrated activity. Door to door pickup and delivery was a real bonus. We also got to enjoy some Roman countryside on our forty-five minute journal to a delightful country village. After purchasing some ingredients from the local vendors, Monica, our guide and chef, introduced us to and took us through the finer points of preparing pasta. Without going into the details of the day, we learned several amazing techniques and recipes that we will take back home. I can thoroughly recommend this experience to anyone who wants to expand his/her knowledge on Italian cooking and who would enjoy something off the normal tourist track.
Words can not express how much fun this cooking lesson was! My husband and I had the best time EVER and it made our Italy experience that much more special. We were greeted by our driver, tour guide, chef... Claudia. She was so much fun. It was a short drive about 45 minutes to a very small village with a population of 50. It was quaint and a lovely location. We stopped at the butchers, the fresh market for veges and fruit and then to the local market for our bread and cheese! We purchased all our fresh ingredients that we'd be cooking with for the day. We entered the home and was greeted by her assistant and everything waiting for us. We prepared food, listened to music, laughed, ate and drank lots of wine. My husband does not eat cheese so he was referred to and nicknamed "Victor No Frommagio" "Victor No Cheese"! We had a blast and met a wonderful group of friends. Just typing my review now makes me so happy and thankful we were able to experience this day.
Had lots of fun. Wonderful experience. Monica and her coworker were wonderful. Let's not forget how delicious everything was
This was great. We loved the appetizers and the pastas. THe main course were soso but that may have been our fault. I would highly recommend this. It is a nice way to get away from the hustle and bustle of Rome and see how people live on the outskirts. Our two chefs were sooo nice and made the experience incredible.
We LOVED this excursion! I had my reservations about a simple cooking lesson, but it turned out to be a wonderful side trip into a tiny Roman village. Our chef was very welcoming and patient. We had a wonderful time walking around the small town, hands-on cooking at the house, and enjoying a LOT of food!
We participated in this tour on April 26, 2014. I have to say it was a magical experience. The location was great. I have a love of Medieval villages and this was not spoiled by tourists! The private home where the class was hosted was terrific and spacious. Our instructor, Monica, made us feel like friends visiting for dinner, we learned to make pasta and traditional village dishes and drank wonderful wines. Best of all we met lovely people who we will never forget.
The tour company was easy to work with and the communication was good. I had the opportunity to communicated via email and telephone and both were easy experiences. We were staying at a local apartment so we arranged to be picked up at a large nearby hotel in Piazza Barberini. The bus was about 15 mins late. Just enough time to cause me concern, but I was reassured by the doorman at the hotel that they are always late (Italian time!).
Monica is a natural teacher, so warm, patient and really good at explaining cooking procedures in English. When I was organizing our trip, I threw this tour in at the end as a filler. It actually turned out to be one of my favorites. Rarely do I come home from a vacation having learned valuable new skills, but that's exactly what happened this time. I can't wait to try out some of the techniques I learned on this tour.
This particular cooking lesson wasn't available on the day I wanted, so I ended up taking the other cooking class in Rome, which was amazing and definitely worth doing. :) I can't say I recommend this particular tour because I have no experience with it, but I'm sure it would be amazing.
We thoroughly enjoyed our day in the kitchen with Monica and her team! The whole experience was well organized. We were particularly fortunate that our group happened to be quite small. Regardless, what ever size the group, it is a fun and 'delicious' day! Time and money well spent.
Yve and James. Angus ON Canada.
The experience was amazing, we have made pasta almost every night since we've been home!
Alberto and Monica were amazing! We were driven out to Mazzano and enjoyed the scenery and conversation. The visit to the meat market and grocery store in the tiny town was a treat. We felt comfortable and welcomed by our hosts, and the recipes we cooked were dimply delicious!! Highly recommend!!
An absolutely wonderful experience! We were so lucky to have the opportunity to work with 2 incredible chef who spent the day teaching us about the local produce and the best way to create traditional Italian cooking using seasonal ingredients. All this, set in such a gorgeous little village made for a truly memorable day! Thank you!
Wonderful experience, the chef and our host where delightful. It was like been with friends. We met the locals, learn how to make bruschetta, different types of pasta and Italian style Tiramisu. We had a delicious meal. Highly recommended.
Fantastic, educational, fun, memorible and so delicious. Our cooking guides were exceptional and very thoughtful. The cooking tour was a highlight of my stay in Rome.
Hands down the highlight of our trip to Italy. The whole experience from marketing, cooking in a mid evil village, the wine, and cooking the most amazing food you will eat in Rome makes this day trip is a must!
This tour was absolutely amazing. Moncia and her assistant were very friendly and we got to do a lot of the work in the kitchen! The food was amazing and we can't wait to practice cooking at home! Thank you so, so much!
What a fantastic day. Our chef, Monica, and her assistant, Elisabeth, we both fantastic. The village and the flat where we spent the day were very charming and comfortable. We would enthusiastically recommend this experience.
Fantastic experience!!!! I was picked up by my hotel and then we all met up and were taken to a quaint, adorable Italian Village about 40 minutes from Rome. There were 6 of us in our class total and it was the perfect size. Chef Monica is awesome! She is so easy going, fun to talk to, a great teacher and you can tell she absolutely loves her job. When we arrived in Mazzano Romana (my spelling might be off) we stopped in the butcher shop as well as in a little market to purchase items to cook with. Monica will make sure that the menu she selects takes into account if anyone has any food allergies or certain items they will not eat. We walked to the apartment and what a view! The apartment is gorgeous and when you stand out on the small balcony the scenery is gorgeous! In the course of several hours, we prepared bruschetta, zucchini/cheese filled ravioli, a vegetable filling that we made a lasagna with, 2 chicken items, rosemary potatoes and tiramisu. Everyone participated in all of the preparation. It was fun because as we were cooking we would chat and everyone got along very well. After all of the work was done, we sat done and ate an amazing meal together. Everything we made was absolutely delicious. Monica also served red and white wine with our meal as well as bottled water. It was truly one of the best days and such a great vacation memory!!!!
One note I will make - and this is not any fault of Monica's - one of the people in our class was quite sick with a cold. Personally, I feel this person should have just observed and not been doing any preparation. She did though and she would stop back and be coughing into her arm and come right back to prep again. Honeslty, It made a few of us frustrated - I still had 11 more days of vacation left and the last thing I wanted was to get sick. As a result, I only tasted each item - did not eat much.
Very good tour. The class only had six people which was fine. The town of where the class was held was very interesting. Both of us like to cook so the cooking portion of the tour was especially of value to us. The teacher was very good. Enjoyed the meal we prepared.
One of our most favorite experiences during our trip. There were six of us, along with Monica and her assistant and it was a wonderful experience!
The cooking class itself was totally amazing. Monica the chef was fantastic and the food we made was out of this world. Starting off at the butcher and the market was great. The countryside was beautiful and was good to get out of the hub bub of the city. The only problem was with Carani tours. When looking for a cooking class our hotel sent of the Carani tours info. The reviews on them were terrible, so I opted not to go with them and booked through Viator. I did not realize that Viator then booked it with Carani. They were late picking us up. After having the hotel call, they sent a taxi who dropped us off at the Carani office without any instruction. There was a group standing outside the office so we presumed that was our tour and waited. The Chef was there waiting for us, but she and we were unaware of this. So, it was a late start which disrupted our evening plans. I would highly recommend the class, but never Carani.
