What You Can Expect
With your guide, you’ll journey into the Oquirrh Mountains to see mining operations such as waste-rock repositories and large trucks that carry heavy loads. Visit an overlook, where you can view the mine while learning about its century-old history, from its origins as a small company to its current status as a major copper supplier and one of Utah’s biggest private businesses.
Next, leave the copper mine for Great Salt Lake, aka the Dead Sea of the United States. Hear from your guide about how the lake—the largest saltwater lake in the western hemisphere—was once part of ancient Lake Bonneville, a large body of water from the Ice Age. At Saltair Resort on Salt Lake’s south shore, you can watch out of some of the 250-plus species of local birds. Your tour then ends with return to the city for hotel drop-off.
Great combination trip to see both attractions. Had time to wade in the Great Salt Lake. Guide showed us the brine shrimp in the Lake. Another guide took us to the top of the mountain, over very rough terrain, and we enjoyed looking down at the copper mine.
The tour guide provided Interesting information on the trip. Do not take if you get car sick. The drive to the mine has many twists and turns.
Guide was very good and tour was as advertised. Tour company had misplaced our reservation and when I called, they had a van and guide at our door in five minutes for a private tour. Outstanding reaction!
Awesome tour well recommended 5 days in SLC is a lot but I really enjoyed this tour
Our tour guide was Chris. We traveled in a van since it was a small group of people. There was about 8 of us. I had read the reviews of other people concerning the road leading to the Kennecott Copper Mine. It was very narrow and steep getting to the mine. Chris went out of his way to assure everyone that he had driven this road many many times before. He pointed out many areas of the road and surrounding land that the mine owns. He stopped so that we could take pictures of the beautiful mountains and the Great Salt Lake. He was very knowledgeable of the whole area that we visited. I would recommend this tour to anyone visiting Salt Lake City.
We greatly enjoyed this trip our trip. The guide was very informative and knowledgable. The drive up to the top of the copper mine is not for the feint hearted! It is very steep with some sheer drops but the views from the top are worth it. The Great Salt Lake is a must to see if you are visiting the city. We enjoyed both parts of the tour.
The guide was very informative and entertaining. Ages of those in the tour appeared to range from middle 30's to middle 70's and everyone seemed to have a good time.
I thought it was an amazing trip. To be able to see down into the copper mine was an experience I will not forget.
great tour of the Salt Lake and the cooper mine
The sites were breath taking, but the guide was too energetic, not well organized, repeated things too many times, and became very annoying to listen to.
