What You Can Expect
Your guide will explain the immense cultural significance of Hallstatt, an old salt mining town that has been linked to prehistoric Celtic peoples. Because of the ancient area's rich stores of natural salt, it is one of the first places humans are known to have settled.
In Hallstatt, consult with your guide to decide on your sightseeing itinerary and explore on your own for half an hour if you wish. You can travel by mountain train up to the world's oldest salt mine (entry at own expense) and take in picture-postcard views of the town below. Take a walk around Lake Hallstatt and observe how the houses above you cling to the mountainside. Admire the Mühlbach Waterfall cascading down the mountain and take a scenic boat ride out on the lake (own expense).
Check out the incredible Beinhaus (Bone House) behind the Catholic church (own expense), a fascinating collection of 1,200 painted human skulls. When Hallstatt ran out of burial grounds in the 1700s, corpses were exhumed and the skulls were decorated to preserve the memory of the deceased.
Relax and capture lovely photos on the drive back to Salzburg. Your 5-hour customizable private tour of Hallstatt and the gorgeous Austrian countryside concludes with drop-off at your Salzburg hotel.
Absolutely one of the best tours we did. Beautiful countryside leading to this fabulous me devil town. Charming old world village full history and marvelous people. Highly recommend this tour.
We really enjoyed this trip to Hallstatt! It was very scenic and informative. Our guide was excellent providing us with much information along the way! Our only negative was that the amount of time allotted in the town is just tooo short. We would have liked an additional hour at least to experience the town in more depth.
Loved every minute of this tour. Our guide, Michael, was great and the scenery so beautiful. Would have liked more time but then there is never enough time when you enjoy a place.
the tour is amazing. we can see what we want to see. Sonia is an experienced guide. She is knowlegeable, helpful and friendly. The van is comfortable for our 7 adults. The price is reasonable. Overall the tour is wonderful and luckily we have Sonia as our guide. Thanks a lot.
This tour is a must.
Max our tour guide was exceptionally professional and Hallstatt is so pretty.
Definitely recommend this
This tour was amazing!
Among the many highlights on our trip we all agree this a beautiful place to visit and should not be missed. Our driver was outstanding( in our many years of travelling one of the best we have had ) and was very informative and helpful. A trip not to be missed
We would highly recommend others take the private Hallstatt Tour from Salzburg! Our tour guide, Natasha, was very knowledgeable and fun to be with. Even though much of the day was cloudy or raining, Natasha made the tour very enjoyable and informative.

Our tour was amazing!!!! Our tour guide was kind, patient and very knowledgeable of the areas that we visited. He took us off the path to a beautiful lake that literally took our breath away! Being from Hawaii we were just overwhelmed with all the snow on the Alps and on the evergreen trees...it was like a post card picture! Our eyes were treated to a most picturesque area, we could not snap enough photos! The snow covered Alps were a sight to behold!
Our visit to Hallstatt was exceptional! Hallstatt was everything I imagined it to be, beautiful, quaint, and historic! I would recommend this tour to everyone, it is quite a distance but well worth it. You will see so much more of Salzburg by taking the distant drive.
We booked two private tours during our stay in Salzburg. The first tour was much better and the tour guide was friendly and flexible to let us know we can detour to other places if we wish to see. This tour guide we had for Hallstatt tour was not that friendly and we cant even hear what he is explaining to us during the tour. He seems to be mumbling to himself, end up we just have to see the scenery and the disappointing thing was when we just want to stop by to buy water or something, the driver will repeatedly say, "Its up to you, but if the tour is overtime, he will have to charge extra" Its not as if we will take a lot of time buying 3 bottles of water?
Anyway overall, at least we went around and see a lot of good views in Salzburg. it could have been better if its the same tour guide we had during our first day tour.
