What You Can Expect
Your guide outlines the scope of the impressive local restaurant and bar scene, and takes you into top eateries to taste their delicious fare. As you stroll at a leisurely pace, pass some of the 150 bars and restaurant, and 94 registered historic buildings in the Gaslamp Quarter. Hear about the origins of this neighborhood, including its notoriety for its red light district when San Diego started out, and illegal booze-running during Prohibition. The area has undergone significant renewal in the past two decades after falling into disrepair in the mid-1900s.
Expect to walk at an easy pace, stopping frequently to try various dishes at up to five eateries with enough samples to make up a full meal. Some of the places that you might visit include: Tin Fish, Meze Café and Grill, Bolillo Tortas, Rock Bottom, Heavenly Cupcake, El Pulpo, Cremolose, Bare Back Bar and Grill, and the Melting Pot.
Please note: restaurants may change and are subject to availability.
We really enjoyed the tour! San Diego has an interesting past and a promising future! I would recommend this tour to anyone interested in learning about the history of San Diego while enjoying good food and drinks.
Definitely worth it. The guide was knowledgeable and the food/drink was perfect. We did not need supper afterwards.
Lots of fun. Weather was iffy, but we managed ok. Guide was very knowledgable
native. Cupcake place was the least successful. Other restaurants were very good as were drinks.
The tour guide did a great job - she was fun, friendly, and informative. I plan to stop in for longer visits at more than one of the places we visited on my upcoming trip.
the tour was great, the food was great and the tour guide was terrific. Highly recommend the tour.
This was a great tour. It was a walking tour but the guide was really excellent. We were with a small party which made it better because we could all hear everything well. The food samples were very good, quesadilla and sangria to begin, then on to an Irish pub for mince and potatoes with a small Guiness, then thirdly a slice of pizza and small beer. Finished off in fourth establishment, The Melting Pot for fondue and cocktail. It was good to learn the history of the area too.
Best tour ever! Miranda was an incredible tour guide informative, conscientious and gracious. We had a large group and she made everyone feel like a friend. I would highly recommend this tour.
Katie, was a great guide. She explained historic and fun facts about the Gaslamp district while stopping in four different locations where we tested food and drinks. I would do the tour again, it was fun and the food was really good.
This tour is a must for everyone visiting San Diego!! Our tour guide Katie is very knowledgeable as well as witty and fun! The restaurants were great and information shared was very interesting. Highly recommend it!

I give this a great review because we did eat at some places we probably would not have stopped at otherwise. Our guide was enthusiastic but got some of the history scrambled which was amusing. We have been to San Diego many times and taken this tour previously especially for the walking and the new restaurants we stop at each time. Our favorite this trip was The Field an Irish pub where we had shepherds pie. We do not drink alcohol so the guide had non liquored beverages for us at each stop which was nice.
