The tour of USS midway was wonderful. We toured on July 4th, and the constant presence of the volunteers/military veterans was heartwarming.
The docents, former navy men who served on the Midway, added tremendously to the experience. We were given a tip to start at the top and work our way down. That meant seeing the bridge with its aerial view of the flight deck which is the command center for take offs and landings then to the flight deck where they explain the intricacies of the maneuvers. Everywhere there were knowledgeable docents with personal stories.
Absolutely fantastic day out!! My partner and I thoroughly enjoyed our visit to this attraction, it is so interesting and informative and an experience not to be missed!
I especially enjoyed the audio tour and the speakers sharing their experiences on the Midway. The displays were interesting with lots of information.
It was great. Very informative and the docents added a great deal to the experience.
Amazing we spent 4 hours touring the Midway. The electronic tour guide was perfect that way we could each spend more time at something that was important to us. Enjoyed listening to the Docents very much. I learned why my father has always called ice cream Gedunk! If you are going to San Diego you must see the Midway. Buying your tickets online is the way to go we did not have to wait in the ticket line we were able to board right away.
This tour was very good, and good value for money, tells the history and workings of an aircraft carrier, we spent a good 3 hours touring the ship, and there was always guides to show you around different areas of the Midway. Would go again
Excellent tour with very knowledgeable guides for the upper levels, great displays of the aircraft the flew from that ship.
Photos were on my computer when I arrived home.
Thanks for the heads up that a minimum of four hours is needed to cover the basic tour.
Fantastic Tour; my brother came along, who had been on the USS Midway in 1971-73; and he was treated royally - he even got to see his old bunk area, as well as his work area. We were there from opening to closing and didn't see everything.
This is an impressive "Ship" and one of the very few Aircarriers for the general public to see. From the so-called Flight Deck It offers fantastic views of the San Diego Bay and the Coronado Bridge as the Flight deck acts as a sort of "pier" at the top level of the Carrier. Highly recommendable pace to visit!
Fabulous day. The volunteers were great with their time and knowledge. Well worth the price.
Our daughter recently joined the Navy and will be serving on a carrier so we found this very interesting. We especially liked the way our three children were able to participate by answering some simple questions as went from exhibit to exhibit to earn their "wings" and the end of the tour.
