Why Our Insiders Chose This Tour
In the winter, Yosemite is less crowded and has a quiet majesty about it. Go ice skating in Curry Village -- skate rentals are reasonable and the views of Half Dome are phenomenal. If you want to try a bunch of activities, I highly recommend the Badger Pass Ski Pass upgrade -- it's a super deal.
What You Can Expect
Badger Ski Pass Upgrade (available December 14 - March 31)
In addition to your 1.5-hour narrated coach tour of the valley, you can upgrade to include additional winter activities on your Yosemite trip! During your free time, use your Badger Ski Pass upgrade to go ice skating (rental and admission included), go skiing (lift ticket and rental included), go tubing, take a group ski or snowboarding lesson, take a guided tour of the valley, and enjoy complimentary shuttle transportation. Pick up your ticket at your hotel upon check-in, and it is good for 24-hours to maximize your winter fun.
In the morning, you'll be picked up from your San Francisco hotel and taken on a comfortable 3-hour drive. Cross the Bay Bridge, cruise through Oakland and the East Bay, and continue through the Central Valley, where you'll stop for groceries (own expense) for your lunch. Travel through Gold Country and the Sierra Nevada Foothills until you arrive at Yosemite National Park.
Hop off the coach and enjoy a picnic lunch (or keep warm inside). You'll then take a fully narrated 1.5-hour coach tour through Yosemite's glaciated valley. Stunning photo opportunities abound here, so be sure to have your camera ready for shots of frozen waterfalls, El Capitan, majestic Half Dome, Inspiration Point and the valley blanketed in snow.
After the tour, head to your hotel for check-in. You'll stay at the Yosemite Lodge at the Falls, nestled in the heart of the valley. The rest of the day is yours to spend as you please. Choose from activities such as hiking, ice skating, snowshoeing, visiting the Ansel Adams Gallery, or taking a guided hike (without the Badger Ski Pass upgrade, all additional activities at own expense). Feel free to stop for a warm drink by the fire at the historic Ahwanee Hotel before returning to your hotel.
