Started off on a Shakey note when we were put onto the wrong tour. But luckily we caught up with Tom and it was all good from then on. We went places that we wouldn't have dreamed of going. Tom had great stories and obviously knew his way around China Town. All topped off with a visit to a tea house. Very funny time was had sipping various teas. Great tour.
The tour guide was very knowledgeable and sights were interesting. The food was tasty and local shop keepers, wok store and tea shop hilarious.
I would definitely use them again!
The tour guide, Todd, was excellent. He had a wealth of knowledge and a passion for history. He was a wonderful guide. Since we had a very small group, I think we were able to see a few extra places during the tour. We saw all of San Francisco and we had the opportunity to sample pizza from Cinectta, cannoli from Stella's Bakery, pasta, and tea from the Vital Tea Leaf. We had a blast.
We had a great time on this tour. There was not as much focus on food as we had expected. However the tour of the actual city was incredible and filled with lots of fun facts and stops at unique places.
We liked the food and the sights. We really enjoyed Robert as our driver and we thought Sasha was quite knowledgeable and both were very friendly and personable. The only downside was the other 6 tourists on the tour with us were quite unsocialable and arrogant. Although, their attitude was less than desirable, we didn't let it ruin the day because we knew we'd never have to see them again. We were impressed that the manager/owner came to talk to us at the end of the tour to see how we liked it.
The tour bus was very late picking us up from our hotel. Otherwise it was a great tour..excellent tour guide and a very interesting experience. Highly recommend.
I like this tour because it was a small tour. The tour guide was very friendly. She made it very comfortable. I like that we were able to see a lot of different places in a short time.
Only stopped at one restaurant, food was marginal. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and did his best to explain the city as we traveled to a point where it seemed he tried too hard. The bus driver did not seem to know where we were going and it required us to make several turn around. The tour guild had to split his time directing the driver and talking to us. It was really a 4+ hour bus ride around the city versus a food sightseeing tour. Not what I expected.
I believe we were booked on the wrong tour. We were told our tour started at 1pm and to be ready for pick up at our hotel between 12pm and 1pm. We were finally picked up at 2:30pm. We had to contact the local tour company multiple times while we waited and were told several reasons for why the driver was running late. When we were finally picked up, the others on the tour seemed to know the tour started at 3pm, not at 1pm (note - we were told 1pm). We wanted the 1pm tour, not the 3pm tour. The actual tour was nice and we got to visit and see several sites we have not been to before while in San Francisco. However, due to the tour starting later, as we drove past several of sites we were not able to see them due to it being dark outside. It got almost comical as our guide described what we should be seeing but could not. A huge disappointment was when we stopped at the Cliff House. It was dusk and foggy. We could hear the water hitting the rocks but could not see the ocean. If we had arrived at this site earlier we might have had a site to see. Also, due to the tour starting two hours later than we thought we missed our dinner plans for that evening. That was very disappointing. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and kind. We enjoyed spending time with him. I believe in the future I will book my tours directly through the local company rather than using a 3rd party company like Viator.
It was about an hour late getting started, after going to the different meeting places only 3 of us were on the tour. Tom, the tour director popped up at all meeting places and seem just a little of. Charles, the bus driver knew the city and did get us to the water just as the sun was setting and this was lovely! But, the tour continued and it was getting dark, as he drove to the other parts of the city, you really couldn't see things he was pointing out. The best time to take this tour would be during Day Light Saving Time, for sure. I was ready to get off the bus, it was 5 hours long plus lunch and we only stopped for lunch, which was quite lovely, but no restroom stops or water breaks. I was expecting more food tasting...not so. All and all I would have to rate this tour 6 out of 10....didn't drop me off at my hotel when it was over like it said they would do. I ask Charles if he was going to drop me off and he said he would have to contact Tom! After waiting for15 minutes he still hadn't contacted Tom! Got a cab and went back to Hotel!!
This trip was horrible. We only ate at one place, and it was dirty. The tour guide just talked about his art work. There was nothing culinary about it. We finally just quit the tour as it was a waste of time and money.
This tour was very misleading. We only went to one restaurant which was very good. But I was very disappointed that we did not do any more food tastings. We did not even go to China Town which was supposed to be on our agenda . We did not go to any Italian bakery which was supposed to be on this tour. We ended up sightseeing which we had already done. Had I known it was going to be more sightseeing than what was on the description on the agenda I read I would have definitely not booked this. I was very disappointed in this tour. The driver was nice enough though.
The title of this tour is very misleading. Yes it is a sightseeing tour but you only make one stop for food and it was not even that good. You stop in Little Italy for bow tie pasta with what looked like Kraft grated Parmesan cheese and bland cheese pizza. You never sip tea in Chinatown, or have a handmade Sicilian pastry at a surprise location. The driver was over an hour late to pick us up, and the tour was only suppose to last about 4 hours. Ours was about 7 hours, this was way too long. Beware...!
I would not recommend it. It's called the food lovers tour and you only eat at one restaurant and the driver was not knowledgeable. All he really knew about were bars and where homeless people were in the area. I feel like the name of the tour is very misleading and I was very disappointed.
Immediately remove "Food Lover's" from the title. By 1:00pm we had ONLY tasted pizza which unceremoniously dropped of at our table with no description. This is a SIGHTSEEING tour with a very light snack. The guide Diana was not knowledgeable on many of the sights. It was so bad we left the tour after the hurried Chinese tea tasting. The following stop was to be a pasta stop but at the point it hardly seemed worthwhile. The "FOOD" part of your sell is misleading.
Note from Viator: Thank you for sharing your experience. We appreciate all feedback both positive and negative to further improve the quality of our tours. This tour features many of the food highlights found on popular walking tours combined with the comfort, convenience and sightseeing aspects of a small-bus tour. It is unfortunate that the tour failed to meet your expectations and you chose to leave early--the handmade cannoli at the end is very delicious. We do hope that you will keep us in mind when planning your next adventure. Happy travels.
