This was one of the best tour experiences we've ever had. The Magic Bus was perfect for seeing San Francisco through the eyes of the 1960's. See Haight-Ashbury as it was and now is, envision the Fillmore with standing room only, imagine parks filled with rock and hippies. It was an excellent journey for those of us who remember the 60's. Combining this with Alcatraz made a full day, but with time to grab lunch at Pier 1. I highly recommend this combo tour for folks who appreciate the 1960's!
I was highly impressed with the technology on the bus and with the friendliness of the driver and tour guide! The tour guide was perfect for the Magic Bus trip! I did however expect, for some reason, that the tour would end somewhere near the pier. But plenty of time to get there. And I probably didn't read something i should have.
We had a wonderful time, traveled all the way from North Dakota, when we got to union square to board the bus we realized we had left our tickets in our vehicle which was parked at the hotel. We were sure they wouldn't let us on the bus. when we explained this to Serene Rain, our tour guide, she took my hands, looked into my eyes and said I believe you. We had a wonderful time on the bus, learned some things about the Hippie movement and had lots of laughs. I would recommend this tour to anyone!
We purchased this tour because that was the only way to get tkts to alcatraz. Our tour guide Gaya was full of energy and so much fun. You need to be open minded if you decide to go on this tour, if you go along with the whole thing you will enjoy if not you will not! We enjoyed it!!!
This tour was tremendous fun, and quite exceptional, and combined with Alcatraz it was a tour that I would recommend to anyone.
Really great tour! Enjoyed learning about the history. Great tour guide, very funny and entertaining!!!!!
To be honest, I only booked this tour because I wanted Alcatraz tickets and this was the only way I could procure them. That being said, I had a great time on the Magic Bus. My husband, my three kids (21, 19, and 14) and my daughter's 18 year old boyfriend loved it as well. As a matter of fact they said it was one of their favorite things that we did in San Francisco. It was fun and whimsical, without being too hokey. I would recommend this tour, particularly for those traveling with older teens and college-age kids.
I took this trip with my daughter, her husband, and their two daughters, aged 7 and 13. The girls loved it! The funky, interactive experience really brought home the vibe of SF during the Summer of Love and the tour hostess, Gaia ( her "flower child" name) made everyone feel like part of her "tribe." I would highly recommend this tour for kids of all ages. Be aware, when talking about SF during that itme the topics of drugs will come up. Nothing inappropriate whatsoever is shown on the video screens and Gaia does a wonderful job of censoring the subject matter. This is a great experience.
Brilliant tour and the amazing "Gaia" was a fabulous tour guide. Bit of a mix-up with the Alcatraz tickets - our voucher said we should collect them on the bus, when in fact we missed the man outside the bus who wasn't obvious but who was handing them out, but they handled it very well and he met up with us quayside later on to give them to us. We laughed our way round the tour which was also very interesting with details that you don't get on the normal bus tours. All in all great value for money and a brilliant way to obtain Alcatraz tickets. Would totally recommend it - it was one of the highlights of our stay in San Francisco.
The tours were great! We wanted just Alcatraz, but they were sold out for 2 weeks, so we got this combo tour and enjoyed the Magic Bus just as much. The guide was lively and energetic and funny and the whole multimedia experience was a different and neat way to do a tour. The Magic Bus is a head turner. People on the street notice it and take pictures of it. You are transported back in time as the shades are drawn - the windows would open and there you were - right in the Haight while completely oblivious to the traffic outside. Don't know what I mean? Then take the tour! Alcatraz was Alcatraz. It's the biggest tourist draw in San Francisco. The audio tour is such a bonus - it's like your own private tour. You don't have to clamor around one dude or dudette who is trying to talk over other guides or other talkers in the group. We went in early July and it was FREEZING out on the cruise. Dress for cold and windy. Finally, I would like to add that that the Viatour staff had great customer service. They were a lot of help and friendly.
This tour was awesome!!! It is not going to be for everyone but we had a blast. I initially bought the tickets to get the Alcatraz tickets as they were unavailable elsewhere but I am so glad I did. The tour is not your average tour and the tour guide made it very entertaining! There was one bad attitude on the bus but she handled it very professionally and made sure it did not affect our tour. :) Thanks again!!
Magic bus tour was the perfect start to our trip in San Francisco - the guide was full of energy and the bus' video and audio put the city in context in a light hearted way. Much better than any other 'serious' bus tour
The Magic Bus is fun and silly....just what we expected. The Alcatraz audio tour is a must!
Tour guide could not have been a child of the 60's, however, she did a great job making you believe she was.
Viator came through with tickets when everybody else was already sold out. Well done!
Magic Bus was a great experience! Out tour guide made the journey a lot of fun. The second part of the tour Alcatraz was a great experience. People told me you can see Alcatraz from the shore but we were glad we opted to take the tour. It was very informative and we learned a lot that we did not realize happened on the island. Highly recommend this experience.
We had a blast on the bus and our trip to Alcatraz was excellent. The Rock and Roll combo was the only site I could a booking for Alcatraz, and am I glad. our tour guide on the bus was amzing and we had so much fun. I am going recommend this all. THANK YOU
The trip was brilliant, the first thing that struck us was the nice colourful bus! The guide was very welcoming and there were about 8 people on the trip. This was much nicer than standard bus trips in that you were entertained from start to finish, a jam packed 2 hours. The guide (an actress dressed in 60s gear) really knew a lot of information about the San Francisco of the 1960s and the route was most interesting. At intervals video screens came down on the windows of the bus and you saw and heard iconic footage of yesteryear! The guide was entertaining and easy going, you even get a souvenir programme with 3D glasses to take home. Even the programme is cleverly designed in that the text can be viewed in 3D with the glasses, you also get a nice large 1960s style button, tin badge. Omitted to say that you get the chance to name yourself with a quirky 1960s name if you want to, a basket goes around with craft materials in to make your new name badge. I chose Elba, after having discovered a new ancestor in Saltlake City a few days earlier! The trip is an excellent experience and I think that anyone who values history would really appreciate this. If you go to San Francisco remember to wear some flowers in your hair and go on this great trip! Howling!
