What You Can Expect
On your first day, board a ferry at Pier 33 for the 10-minute ride across placid San Francisco Bay toward Alcatraz Island. Tickets to the infamous former prison often sell out far in advance, but you are guaranteed access to this legendary San Francisco landmark.
When you arrive, watch an informative movie about Alcatraz, which once housed some of the nation’s most heinous criminals, including Al Capone and James ‘Whitey’ Bulger. A number of inmates tried to escape the massively fortified island, but no one is known to have succeeded. Take an audio tour of the cellblocks and historic buildings that are a gloomy contrast to the spellbinding views of San Francisco’s skyline in the distance.
Your Segway tour isn’t until the next day, so there’s no need to hurry. Explore the compound at your own pace and head back to the mainland when you wish; ferries depart roughly every half hour.
City Segway Tour
The day after your expedition to Alcatraz, meet your guide for your 3-hour morning, afternoon or sunset Segway tour -- an intimate, leisurely way to see more of San Francisco than you would on a walking tour or bus tour. Receive a safety orientation to get comfortable on your Segway, and then set off to explore the city with your small group and knowledgeable guide.
Listen to your guide talk about the city’s rich history as you glide past its most distinctive landmarks, stopping for incredible photo opportunities.
On the morning or afternoon Segway tour, cruise past bustling Fisherman’s Wharf and take in vistas of the Golden Gate Bridge’s regal red towers and Alcatraz’s imposing outline. See the shops and restaurants of Ghirardelli Square and historic marine vessels at Hyde Street Pier and Aquatic Park. Admire a famous San Francisco cable car, and end your adventure with a close-up view of the towering Transamerica Pyramid in the Financial District before returning to Pier 45.
The sunset Segway tour also includes amazing views of Fisherman’s Wharf, the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz and the Transamerica Building before traveling along the waterfront Embarcadero with its numerous piers. Finish your tour with views of San Francisco’s best-known towers – the Ferry Building and sleek Coit Tower atop Telegraph Hill – before heading back.
Our tour guide Hugh was great - he was very knowledgable about the area and made it a very fun experience.
had a brilliant day on the Segway tour host was 1st class would highly recommend to anyone as not as difficult as you might think
We booked the trip for the Alcatraz tickets. The description said the tickets would be for between 10am and 3pm, but our ferry time was actually 3:50pm. Not ideal as we didnt really have time to explore the island following the cellhouse tour as the last ferry back was at 5:55. Still very enjoyable though. I actually spoke to the company right after booking my tickets to confirm and to find out the time of our ferry. I recommend doing this as it saves having any hassle when on you holiday.
The Segway tour was a very pleasant surprise. We were quite lucky on our sunset tour as no one else was booked onto it, so the guide - Aaron, customised the tour to show us what we had not already seen on our 2 previous days in San Francisco. The other guide in the store was very helpful too sorry, I did not get his name. He helped us swap the time of our tour to be an hour earlier and even helped us with very good directions for getting the bus back to our hotel afterwards.
This was one of the highlights of our trip! So much fun! Greg our tour guide was awesome! Would definitely go on a Segway Tour again.
Absolutely loved the Segway tour. We were nervous at first but once we got on it was a breeze. Michael Z was our guide and he was fabulous. I didn't want it to end!!!!
One of the best parts of my San Fran trip!!!
Outstanding arrangements by the Viatour folks and we had a terrific time. The Segway tour was a blast and the Alcatraz tour was far better than we ever expected. I would not hesitate to use Viatour again and highly recommend the combined tours.
One of the best days out we had whilst in America. The tour guides were very friendly and helpful and took us to some beautiful parts of San Fransisco that we wouldn't have thought to go to, like the Palace of Fine Arts which was stunning. This tour was a perfect mix of fun, culture and history . I would highly recommend anybody visiting San Fransisco to do this tour.
We originally only booked this to get access to Alcatraz tickets but ended up thoroughly enjoying our Segway tour! Alcatraz was amazing, the audio tour was informative and we had a great time.
Alcatraz was great fun and informative. The Segway tour was off the scale in perfection! Would recommend the Segway tours to anyone and everyone. My whole family two adults and two boys 12 and 14 had an absolute blast.
Fantastic....there was a reservation problem but the operations manager, Grant Loveless, resolved all the issues to our entire satisfaction! What a wonderful and professional organization. I recommend all Segway tours as this is the best way to visit any new city.
