Do not spend less than a full day at the Academy! My wife and I spent a Saturday there, and at the end of the day, many exhibitions were left for our next visit. The most amazing was definitely the rain forest, taking you in a spiral journey among birds and colorful butterflies, from soil to canopy, inside a huge bubble greenhouse. Also, we were impressed by the aquarium: its meanderings and reef walls let you wander peacefully among incredibly diverse underwater dwellers. If we have to pick a third one, that would be the planetarium 360deg dome projection with an amazing astronomical journey through space and time. On a side note: the cafeteria food is excellent (and organic/eco friendly). Enjoy your visit!

We wanted to go to the California Academy of Sciences for a long time and finally made it last Saturday. We went there soon after the opening hour and enjoyed every second until closing time! From the Africa exposition and the penguins show, to the 3D bug show and the Planetorium Nasa based film, and to the green living roof terrace - it was fantastic and each exhibition was really very well made and interesting. we especially loved the Aquarium with wonderful fishes - see an octopus so close was amazing, and the dragon fishes were just incredible! The top of the top was the rainforest - just fantastic! You feel the humidity, you walk among butterflies flying around you, and what a collection of frogs of all kinds, red, bright green, yellow, rocky look, tiny and big! The layout of the whole building is great, and seeing the fishes from the top of the rainforest and right through to the bottom of the Aquarium is fantastic. The food at the Cafe is nice too, and is very convenient for a quick bit before hitting the rest of the exhibition. We did not stop talking about our day and we will definitely go for the Platinum Behind the Scenes tour to get more insights.

We had waited in anticipation for some time, to visit Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. Our target destination was the new, fabulous California Academy of Sciences. Our friends in San Francisco had warned us of long ticket lines. We went online to Viator filled out a simple, short form and within seconds our tickets were confirmed and printable. At the Academy we were directed to a "no line" window where our confirmation was exchanged for tickets. It could not have been more simple or convenient! This pass rocks!

A very fun and educational visit. I spent six hours at the Academy talking to Docents, taking pictures, watching two shows and learning a lot. There was no problem at the entrance, just remember to get your tickets for the shows as soon as you get inside. Also avoid going on the free day, third Wednesday of the month, unless you like crowds and waiting in line. Midweek seems to be a safe bet.

I enjoyed my trip to museum since I didn't have to wait in line and saved some money for dinner after. Thanks.

Parking garage was difficult to find. But once we got to the garage everything else was easy.

Favorite exhibit is the glass rain forest sphere. One brown butterfly had a face like a bird on its wing with big black buttons that looked like eyes, hard to find these guys in sphere. Darwin's finch also very special. Enjoyed eating Sushi on the lawn behind one of the Worlds "Greenest" Facilities. South entrance on Lincoln easy way in/out and you miss a lot of the traffic. Woolly Mammoth tusk was so precious to see.

The Academy was fantastic, except that the planetarium was sold out at 11:00 am through the 330 pm show. All other exhibits were amazing. The skip the line tickets only put you in a shorter line not skipping a line!

We thoroughly enjoyed this experience. We followed good advice to arrive early and go directly to the planetarium exhibit for tickets. From there, we went to the Rain forest Exhibit. This was a beautiful and interesting display with butterflies flitting all around. The aquarium area was also very nice, especially the coral reef and sea dragon exhibits. My husband enjoyed seeing the T-Rex and diorama hall that he had seen as a child. The overall feel of the California Academy of Sciences is open and airy, packed with interesting displays and easy to navigate within a day. The roof and planetarium shows were interesting to see, also.

The California Academy of Sciences is a great day out for all of the family. There is plenty too see and learn, no matter what age you are. Must-see exhibits include the Steinhart Aquarium, which houses the Flooded Amazon and The Swamp. I recommend this for anyone going to the Planetarium: pick up your tickets early, as it fills up quick.

This is the coolest museum I have ever seen. The California Academy of Sciences is what all museums should aspire to be, as it is truly a modern museum. Definitely eat at The Moss Room; the food was the best I had in San Francisco during my visit.
