What You Can Expect
Before setting out on the river, you’ll receive a brief orientation and safety training from your experienced guide. Gear up with a paddle, life vest and helmet before hopping into the raft. Once adrift on the Chirripó, you’ll be able to admire the lush scenery, with a dense emerald forest rising up from the riverbanks. You may notice the river’s copper hue, which is the result of soil deposits from nearby volcanic fields.
Paddle hard and fast to maneuver your raft through the roaring dips and bends of more than 20 Class III rapids. Take a break from the intense action halfway through your adventure, when you’ll disembark on the riverbank for a rest and replenishing snack of fresh fruit.
Our trip on the Chirripo River was cancelled because of dangerous conditions on the river. We however did not miss a whitewater activity.
. The tour company made arrangements to take us to another location which was safe and we thoroughly enjoyed our trip. We had a snack at a spot where we got out of the boat and could go swimming. We continued our trip. After a very nice lunch we headed back to our hotel.
Beto was a wonderful guide--both on and off the water. Wali was a skilled driver who kept us safe on mountain roads between San Jose and the River. Beto is a skilled and sympathetic teacher. He's got clear communication skills and is able to anticipate what novice paddlers will do on the water. He got us through some challenging stretches of river and we all had a great time while doing it! I would definitely book this trip again!
Wonderful trip, and nice river-man.
The water was at a low level and that was disappointing but our guide Stanley made the ride interesting and fun! He was funny, informative and open to our questions. Stanley was the reason the rafting turned out to be a great time! The fruit snack and jumping off the edge of the hill in to the water was an added bonus. I would recommend this excursion! Ask for Stanley - he was great!!!
