What You Can Expect
Step onto dry land and head inside Santo Winery, a site that boasts views as beautiful as its wine. Wander with your guide along the terraces, admiring the waves dancing around the shoreline, and sample three different varietals of wine that are made on the premises. Samples change each tasting, but typically a glass of red, white and vinsanto (syrupy-sweet dessert wine) are all served.
Cruise to the foot of Nea Kameni and enjoy roughly 1.5 hours of free time for a stroll around the volcanic landscape. After paying your entrance fee to the site, explore at your leisure. Have your camera ready to capture photos of the dark volcanic cliffs cutting a contrast against the blue waves of the Aegean Sea, and look out for pieces of magma as you walk around.
Meet back up with your guide at a prearranged time, and walk to the volcano’s hot springs for a relaxing and reviving bath. The naturally formed pools were created from volcanic activity and are said to have medicinal powers against skin and bone disease.
Feeling refreshed and relaxed, return to your boat and finish your experience with the highlight of your evening: dinner as the sun goes down. Cruise over the sea to Thirasia, the large island adrift from Santorini’s northwestern coast. Forming part of the remains of ancient Thira, the island is sparsely populated and known for its stunning rocky coastline. Moor up next to the rocks and savor your dinner with a glass of wine and water.
After watching the sun set over the island of Santorini, cruise back to the start point and finish your evening experience with a hotel drop-off.
Main course (choice of one):
- Rolled chicken
- Rolled pork
- Greek salad
- Grilled potatoes
- Rise (Santorini bread)
- Tzatziki (yoghurt dip with cucumber, garlic and mint)
- Fresh fruit selection
GREAT TOUR, BUT NOT AS ADVERTISED!!! There was no wine tasting at all. Also, they charge 2 euros/person for volcano admission, and "hot springs" admission is only free because you have to jump off the boat and swim to it. Also worth knowing: you need to be relatively fit to enjoy this trip. The volcano hike is not for the faint of heart - I recommend wearing something other than flip-flops. Overall it was a really fun time, and a great way to experience Santorini, but the actual experience is fairly different than Viator's description.
The trip was wonderful, however there was no wine tasting. The trip consisted of a boat trip to the volcano, time to walk up to the top (cost 2 Euro per person entrance fee), boat trip to the hot springs with 30 minutes to be in the water, dinner and watching the sunset from the boat. The dinner was served buffet style with tons of food (pork, chicken, rice, bread, greek salad, tzaziki, potatoes, watermelon) and one complimentary glass of wine. The bar service was great on the boat, with bottled water at a extremely low price (50 cent euro per bottle). Overall, a great trip but was disappointed that it was advertised as including the wine tasting. So long as you know this beforehand so you aren't disappointed, the trip was very enjoyable.
