Itinerary:

Day 01: Edinburgh - Inverness
Travel to lonely Rannoch Moor and into Glen Coe, Scotland's most famous glen and the scene of the terrible massacre in 1692. You will make a stop in the midst of this awe-inspiring scenery where you can enjoy an optional picnic lunch and a stroll in these dramatic surroundings.

From Fort William the striking scenery of the Great Glen unfolds ahead of you: first Loch Lochy, then Loch Oich and finally Loch Ness. Enjoy a drive along the banks of Loch Ness, stopping to visit Urquhart Castle with its panoramic lochside views. It is a popular spot with "Nessie" spotters, so keep a careful watch, just in case! Shortly after you will arrive in Inverness, home for tonight.

The stay in Inverness is unescorted.

Day 02: Golspie - Monarch of The Glen
You will leave Inverness and head across the Black Isle to the Cromarty Firth where, depending on tide conditions, you may see seals. Make a stop in the town of Golspie. High above the town is an astonishing statue, 90 feet (27 meters) high. This is of the First Duke of Sutherland, whose agents were involved in the most notorious of the Clearances in the Highlands during the 19th century.

You will hear more about this sad episode in the history of Scotland as you head North. Caithness grew rich with the development of the herring fishing in the 19th century and as a result there are many exceptionally beautiful harbors - as you will discover. There are telescopes available on-board the minicoach to let you marvel at the wide range of birds and wildlife including Puffins (until early August) and red deer (the "Monarch of the Glen"), which are seen on almost all tours. There are several stops along the way to give you ample opportunity to relax and take a stroll amidst this beautiful scenery.

Day 3: Inverness - Edinburgh
This morning there is an excursion to nearby Culloden Moor where Bonnie Prince Charlie's dreams came to a bloody end. Later there is free time in Inverness for individual sightseeing or shopping before you join the motorcoach for a spectacular drive through the Highlands. From the Spey Valley and the Cairngorm Mountains you travel through Glen Garry to the pretty Victorian resort of Pitlochry. After a short break you will continue through the gentle rolling countryside towards Perth then homewards to journey's end.
