Kampong Glam and Sultan Mosque Morning Walking Tour

Meet your guide in Kampong Glam for your walking tour of this historical Singapore neighborhood. While you walk, listen to your guide’s fascinating expert commentary about the sultans who ruled Singapore before the country became a British colony.

Wander down narrow side streets, learning about the neighborhood’s history as home to the local aristocracy before the British East India Company set up its Singapore trading post in an attempt to control the spice trade. Discover remnants of the indigenous culture here, including Indonesian medicine, Malay folk traditions, Arabic goods and Islamic legends. Visit an ancient burial ground that’s home to the Tombs of the Malayan Princes, and see the old royal palace, known as the Istana Kampong Glam, which is now the Malay Heritage Centre.

The highlight of your tour is a visit to Sultan Mosque, one of Singapore’s most prominent religious sites, recognized by its gold onion domes. Admire its architecture and learn a bit about its history, which dates back to 1824; the structure was rebuilt around 1930.

When your tour ends, you are free to continue exploring on your own.
