The day trip to Malacca was fabulous. The driver and guide were good, and the guide had a lot of knowledge about Malaysia in general. Lunch was excellent, and the old City of Melaka has incredible architecture, an old mosque, an Indian temple and a Chinese temple. The historic shops are very beautiful and incredibly diverse in style. The ethnic roots of the old city are as intertwined as a banyan tree - well worth visiting.

Given the amount of time on the road, there was understandably reduced time for sightseeing. A local guide in Malacca other than the driver who was excellent but had a very long day would have helped to make more use of this time. Lunch would have been more appreciated at a more authentically 'local' restaurant rather than at a big hotel lacking in atmosphere. Given the cost of a private tour, a group option would probably be better value for Viator to promote. I didn't know such a thing was possible, but in Singapore I found that it would have been.

Malacca was a tacky tourist trap. Our guide and driver were excellent, as was lunch.
