What You Can Expect
Then, board your boat, an inflatable raft, for a tranquil, 45-minute float down the Taiya River. Your naturalist guide on board provides insight into Skagway’s colorful past, and points out bald eagles and other native wildlife. Depending on when you visit, you might even see bears.
After the float, settle on a riverbank for a snack break while admiring the beauty of your river and mountain surroundings.
You’ll be transported back to the Skagway cruise ship terminal. If time permits, your driver will make a stop at an overlook that gives you 360-degree views of Skagway.
Worry-free Shore Excursion:
We will ensure your timely return back to the ship in Skagway for this activity. If your ship is delayed and you are unable attend this activity, your money will be refunded. See our terms and conditions for full details.
This was our most favorite tour on our Alaska cruise. Was able to get my elderly mother on the raft along with my kids. All 9 of us took this slow gentle river ride, we saw 2 bald eagles on the tree where their nest was, another one was further up the river. This was as scenic as I imagined. A very worthwhile excursion. I highly recommend this one.
Bob, our guide, was wonderful. Scenery was beautiful, travels easy and informative, salmon snacks much appreciated.
We had a great time -- beautiful day, Nate the guide was terrific, good bunch of people with us, and all very affordable. One of us has some difficulty with walking, but Nate and the others were very patient and helpful with getting in and out of the raft. We highly recommend it. Thanks, Nate! God bless.
Oh, and the recommendation to stop at the Skagway Brewery was right on target -- good food, good beer, nice place -- lots better than the Red Dog in Juneau.
Guide was excellent. Pleasant and informed. Float was short but, fun. Not as much wild life as expected.
The only reason it wasn't a 5 is that we didn't see a bear! Nathan was a great guide and we learned a lot of history and loved the time floating on the river!
I recommend this trip!
Nice van ride to the river with an informative guide. The river was beautiful. The actual float trip was quite short. It took longer to get to and from the river than actual time on the river..
Great trip. Fairly tame if you are worried about falling in. Scenery was moderate. Coffee and snacks at en good.
The trip was nice, although we did not spend much time on the water. It seems we were in the van
longer than the boat. The guide was very informative and interesting but I don't think I would recommend the trip to anyone as we did not see much wildlife: one eagle, a few nests, and a sea otter.
Only wildlife were two eagles. Pleasant trip but not much wildlife.
The float was too short. We did a similar float near the Grand Tetons that was much longer which gave us more opportunity to see wildlife.
