Loved the tour Alberio is quite a character. Made the tour very enjoyable.
The hike to the top of the crater was Great had plenty of time at top.
Winery tour and lunch was outstanding really was a great deal. Thanks Alberio and Viator
It's a long drive from Sorrento to Vesuvius but the bus was air conditioned, our guide Desiree was chatty and vivacious along the way and gave us lots of interesting information about the countryside we passed through. The 4x4 ride up most of the mountain was surprisingly comfortable but looking out of the window was sometimes NOT comfortable! Long way down. We managed the climb the rest of the way to the crater, a bit of a struggle at times, and the views from the top were well worth the climb. Amazing! We then went down again to a lovely winery at the foot of Vesuvius where we had a tour of the vines, some wine tasting and an absolutely gorgeous lunch. It all got a little hazy after that............ This was a great trip and I would highly recommend it - however not for anyone with mobility problems. Combining Vesuvius and then the lunch at the winery is a stroke of genius and we all had a lovely day. Luckily Desiree has obviously done this tour many times and knows that most people will sleep on the bus back to the hotel! Very good tour with a very good guide.
Giovanni was the best tour guide ever. Knowledgeable and fun. The hike was tough but so amazing. The tour and lunch was one of the best times of my whole trip. That food and wine. Highly recommend this tour.
This tour was great. We enjoyed climbing to the top of Mt Vesuvius. The views were great. The one thing to know is that you need to have good balance and should wear tennis shoes. The tour of the winery was good. The food and wine were both very good! Our tour guide Giovanni was excellent!!
Giovani was the best guide we had our whole trip! His knowledge and humour was awesome!
This is a wonderful experience. Our tour guide Giovani (?) was a hoot. not only did he give a great history of the area of Sorrento to Naples ,but he had a great sense of humor and I saw him go up to every single person on the trip and talk to them personally to make sure they were enjoying the trip and asked about them. The trip itself is an experience on its own. the ride to Naples is beautiful. the stop at the cantina is nice.(since there are no restrooms on Vesuvius) we learned how they made the wine that we would be tasting later. Then to the 4x4's.... OMG what a ride!!!! It is bumpy as anything and on roads you cant imagine made for travel. And that was half the fun of it. once at the parking lot near the top you got out paid an extra 10 euro (which they collected ahead of time allowing anyone who didn't want to go to the top the option of staying in the parking area) then a 20 min hike to the top as Giovani explained more about the area, Vesuvius, and Pompeii. Then we had 2 hours to walk around the crater. which is really cool. Smoke still coming out of the sides here and there. Then back down for the 4x4 trip back down the mountain. Then back to the Cantina for lunch and wine tasting. The wines are amazing and the food is delicious. then back on the bus to Sorrento with Giovani singing a few funny songs with our bus driver doing backup with the horn. It was one of the many highlights of our trip and I would DEFINITELY recommend this trip.
I have been waiting to write this review. This was one of our favorite tours on our entire Italy trip because of so many things. Mainly because of Gianni. We fell in love with him. My mother (the lady from Avellino) loved him. He was a great tour guide. We had so much fun. The walk up Vesuvius was breath taking. The food at the Vineyard was so delicious. But the singing in the bus on the way back to Sorrento was priceless. Then to make out trip better, we saw Gianni in Revello. What a treat!
Gianni, well try to find you next year. We will see you again. Thanks for the fun, Cheryl, Marie (mama), Patrick, and Ayrana
The highlight of our trip to Italy. Standing on the peak was breathtaking, the views amazing.
Our guide Gianni was friendly, happy and courteous throughout the tour and very knowledgeable on the history of the entire area of Sorrento.
The walk through the vines, lunch and wine testing capped off a perfect day.
Would recommend this tour to anyone considering visiting Sorrento/Mt Vesuvius
Fantastic day trip. Giovanni the tour guide was excellent lunch and the wine were very good.
Great tour, a little cloudy but the experience was good. Tour guide Gabby made the day one to remember.
Excellant trip, guide ( Sasa ) was very knowledgable, and enthusiaistic about the subject and history of the area. Well worth the journey top stand at the top of the volcano. We had a query over pick up location, and the company resolved it by picking us up outside Hotel which was a great help, all in all a great day... Many Thanks
We enjoyed this tour. The company was good enough to pick us up closer to our town, en route, rather than us travelling 30 minutes to meet them. Our guide, Laura, was very knowledgable and paced the tour nicely.
It is a bit of a hike,on unlevelled ground and was slippery at times. You really need good footwear and in half decent shape to make it to the top. The 4x4 portion was rough. Bounced around a fair bit, but fun.
The lunch and wine tasting was delightful. Lots of flies tho. We did a brief tour of the winery and then headed back. It was a long day in the sun, but very beautiful once you make it to the top.
A good variety of walking, dining and wine tasting with excellent views of Mt Vesuvius and Naples
the hole trip was good lunch and wine tasting is in my view the high light, but going up to rim and finding that i have to pay more money to get there was disppointing, i feel you should inform in your adverts before people book the trips as they are already a large cost.
This is a great experience. The 4X4 is an experience not to be forgotten! It was quite uncomfortable at times. Once we got out of 4X4 and started to walk the last 25 minutes it was great. Definitely wear trainers as makes the walk more comfortable. Some people struggled with the walk more than others but once we were at the top it was really worthwhile. The views were amazing. So pleased we did this.
The tour itself was great and our guide was very knowledgeable. The winery we had lunch at was awesome too. The only thing was that our bus was 30 min late in picking us up and it was hard to get a reason as to why. Although it would not deter me from using Viator again.
Note from Viator: Thanks for your feedback. We appreciate your feedback and are following up with our local supplier.
This tour was excellent. The experienced guide was friendly and knowledgeable about many aspects of the geology, biology and gastronomy. The visit to the winery to sample local food and wine was a real treat.
Mt. Vesuvius is worth seeing but prepare yourself for the hike up the hill. This tour was a bit disjointed. We started at the winery which was lovely but hardly spectacular and not really worth visiting. It's on the way to the mountain...and it seemed like our guide was stalling here - would have preferred to spend more time hiking around the mountain. Then you come back to the same winery for lunch and wine tasting - the food was ok - the people are very nice. Prepare yourself for the bouncy ride up the mountain.
The volcano visit itself was great but far too short as the logistics to get there were a bit convoluted with a lot of hotel pickups and drop offs and waiting around in car parks. The vineyard/wine tasting aspect was nice but to be honest we there are much better options. The 4x4 part is not the land cruiser we had imagined but simply transferring from a road bus to an off road bus to continue the journey. Given the choice again I would find my own way to the volcano and sort access to the park on arrival. You could do the whole thing in half a day for half the money.
This tour was nice but also much longer than I expected. There is one bus that comes around to all the pick up points, so if they are 15 mins late you are probably just one of the last pick ups, I didn't know this and was worried. Its quite a drive to get to vesuvius, take your car sick pills, but once there they give you a bathroom break and its only 15 mins to the volcano. Then you board a BIG BUS (not the american 4x4) which drives you to the top. I restate, take your carsick pills! But it is a LOT of fun if you live roller coasters. There is a serious hike to the top, as 26/28 year old newlyweds we had no problems, but some in our group did. There is no tour that can sidestep the hike though. At the top the view is great but the tour is just someone shouting at you with 3 postcards for 3 minutes, skip this and enjoy some extra time to walk around the top. Stop for some wine at the gift shop, then climb back to the bus that takes you down. Lunch wasn't until about 2:30PM, so eat a good breakfast. You sample many things, but the Sorrento farm tour had much better stuff. You try the wine, but we felt rushed through the tasting and food without explanations or proper pairings, when you glass is empty they just pour the next without waiting for the food, or explaining anything about the wine or the years harvest. At the end you get a 5 min explanation about how old the winery is. We did buy a bottle of the rose because it is so unique and tasty though. Then the long ride home. Nice tour, reasonable price, but it is a full day which we wish we had know.
