Freedom Square, the Mandela Museum, a visit to a typical "shebeen" – take this special morning tour to discover the vibrant metropolis of Soweto, on the outskirts of Johannesburg.
This sprawling metropolis of more than 3.5 million people is synonymous with South Africa's turbulent past and its hopes for the future. On this tour you'll take a peek into the past by visiting Freedom Square, symbol of the nation's struggle for liberty. You'll visit the Mandela Museum, see Desmond Tutu's home and stand on the only road in the world that's home to two recipients of the Nobel Peace Prize.
Your tour includes a full view of Soweto from the vicinity of Baragwanath Hospital, visits to African merchants selling traditional medicines, a visit to a typical four-roomed dwelling, an informal settlement, a creche, an old-age home, affluent suburbs and a typical "shebeen" (tavern).
