What You Can Expect

Hunter Valley Wineries and Wilderness Small-Group Tour

Hunter Valley Wineries and Wilderness Tour

Your day begins with hotel pickup in Sydney followed by a scenic journey to the Hunter Valley, which is located about two hours away from Sydney.

Stop along the way at a wildlife reserve for Australian native animals. With early arrival at the wildlife park, you can beat the crowds and enjoy close encounters with the critters. Get great photo ops as you meet the koalas or hand-feed kangaroos and emus. You can also snack on morning tea and coffee while at the park.

Continue your drive into the Hunter Valley. Your first stop in the valley takes you to Mount View Estate for a wine tasting. Sip up to five different wines, each one paired with cheese. Then head to Brokenwood Wines to sample their wine selections.

Take a break for an optional two-course lunch (if option selected) that includes a main course (choice of four dishes) paired with either red or white wine, followed by a dessert course served with dessert wine.

You can choose from several activities for the afternoon. Sample more wines at another tasting room, or learn the details of wine production from a movie about winemaking at the ‘Wine Theater.’ Your guide can also provide options for further tastings of local cheeses or a tasting paddle of small-batch beers (own expense).

Expect to enjoy a number of picturesque wineries and tasting rooms that have stunning views of the rolling hills and vineyards of Hunter Valley. Keep your camera handy for photo ops, and relax on the drive back to Sydney in the mid-afternoon after a full day of delicious tastings in gorgeous settings. Your tour ends with hotel drop-off in Sydney in the late afternoon.

This tour was enjoyable and well worth the cost. Our tour guide was great, giving us a lot of information about the area, the wines were good and the wilderness park was fun.

It was a great way to see the wine country and also the animals and reptiles.

Hunter Valley was superb and the group of 7 was just the right size. Not only did we learn about wine and wildlife but it was a great exposure to how beautiful that part of Australia was.

Our guide, Lindsay, was knowledgeable and courteous and paced the trip perfectly.

If you don't have much time, as we did, this tour is a great use of it.

Wine became our coffee during this day but I can't help to say that I loved it! Wines here were really great and the lunch we had was awesome.

We were the only two people on the tour so had a private tour.
The visit to the animal sanctuary was amazing. We were brought a baby alligator to touch and a koala - just for our tour. We were also given tea and cake.
On to the Hunter valley again we were the only two in the small winery. At Mount View we ate cheese and crackers and sampled some amazing wines. The girl even gave us wines not usually for tasting as there was only two of us. No pressure to buy. But we did and found it was very reasonably priced. 15 a bottle upwards.
The second tour was a larger winery which was also very quite we went in August on a weekday - Bimbagim. The guy behind the bar was funny and friendly. It did not feel awkward that there was only the two of us. He even took some photographs for us with the back drop of the Hunter Valley.
We then travelled for our lunch about 1pm feeling very full of wine. The place for lunch is also a brewery. The beers and ciders were good. We also got a large glass of red and white table wine on the table each.
The food was delicious.
I do have one thing that could have been improved. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable, friendly and very, very chatty the whole journey however it would have been nice if we could have eaten our lunch as a couple. As this was a bit awkward especially since he was sharing our food.
