The VIP backstage tour visits the conductor's quarters, which is a beautiful room with a window that overlooks the Sydney harbour. But the best experience was actually playing the piano in that room at the Sydney Opera House. I felt like an instant celebrity and my wife joined me at the piano for this picture.

Have been on stage of the Opera House - no need to become an artist now.

The Sydney Opera House literally shimmers as the sun rises over the Sydney harbour. We arrived at the Sydney Opera House early in the morning for the VIP backstage tour.

The Concert Hall was the first area we visited on the backstage tour, and it was inspiring to stand on a stage where so many famous performances have taken place.

The Sydney Opera House is working all around the backstage tour, so while we were on the tour we got to see them getting ready for the performance of "Symphony at the Movies" (which we attended later that night) by bringing up a concert grand piano right up through the stage floor. The clearance was only about a quarter of an inch!

This was absolutely one of the best highlights of our trip to Sydney, Australia. I got to play the piano at the Sydney Opera House. Absolutely incredible.

We were not allowed to take any photos of the sets at the Sydney Opera House because the performances were still "in progress" and due to copyright laws and whatnot, our tour guide requested that nothing in the way of sets be photographed. So here is a photo of the Opera Hall at the Sydney Opera House. Behind me are incredible sets of the opera "Orlando".

The right side of the Opera Hall at the Sydney Opera House. The hall was massive, and I know these pictures do not do it justice. The architecture inside was as beautiful as the architecture on the outside and everything was functional. Behind me was the rather small opera stage, but the set designers were amazing and the sets were incredible. They also used a large elevator to swap the giant operatic sets during the opera.
Choices, choices!

We had seen both the stage area for "The Narcissist" and for "Symphony at the Movies: Crimetime, with Clive James", but since we had actually stood on stage in the concert hall, we decided to see "Symphony at the Movies" that evening. It turned out to be a fantastic performance by the Sydney Symphony!!
