Read what other Viator.com travelers think about the 5-Day Best of Taiwan Tour from Taipei: Sun Moon Lake, Taroko Gorge, Kaohsiung and Taitung. What they loved, what they liked and what they think could be improved, it's all here to help you make the most of your next trip.
This was a very cost effective and fun way to see the best of Taiwan. The hotels were all very nice with onsens and swimming pools. Our guide, Walter, was wonderful. He was very kind and helped everyone. He even gave out his phone number if we needed help in Taipei after the tour. I highly recommend this tour to everyone!
Excellent hotels, comfortable bus, knowledgeable tour guide (Peter) and beautiful nature. I highly recommend this tour. Seeing Taroko Gorge, in particular, and then driving along the mountainous East coast was a nice way to finish the tour. Just spectacular scenery. We spent 2 days in Taipei and 5 days in Hong Kong, prior to this trip , so it was nice to see some beautiful nature, in contrast to city skyscrapers / hustle and bustle.
Our tour guide Peter was amazing. Love all the places that we visited especially Kenting and Taroko Gorge. Hotels were good too. My personal favourite was the Silks Place Taroko. Met people around the world and they were so friendly. Highly recommended!
The trip reviewers below may have felt they had really good guides (Alan and Eric), but the best has to be Walter. He made this perfect tour even better through his informative and humorous personal approach with each of the travelers in our group of 29, ranging in age from 20's to 80's from around the world. The result was a friendly and interactive group of travelers who actively participated in getting to know the country and each other. This was one of the best orgainized tours we have ever been on.
The hotels on the tour and overall value for your money was excellent.
We could have stopped to view the Eastern coastline a few more times because it was spectacular. People on the wrong side of the bus missed a lot.
Great tour! 6 stars if possible! Alan our guide was very professionally in both Mandarin and English. He would give us a lot of info of all the different locations and give us answers to any questions we have. Great first class hotels at each of the location 2 hotels with a hot spring! Great food along the way. On this tour you are able see all the different locations of Taiwan.
Excellent trip. nothing to complain. well managed and experienced tour company with professional tour guide named Eric. Hotels were excellent all the way especially fleur de chine at sun moon lake. that was fabulous. However this tour not suitable for senior people who has less mobility as it involves lots of trail walk and hiking.
It was an excellent tour. I highly recommend it to the people who would like to change their routine and are interested in oriental cultures. However, children under 10 year old can easily get bored. The tour guide Allan Chou will become a legend soon. He was rightly well praised in reviews.
It's impossible to see all the interesting sites in Taiwan but this is probably the closest to seeing the most worthwhile places packed into 5 days. Tour was well organized except at the beginning upon being picked up at our hotel, the driver dropped us off at the Howard Plaza hotel parking lot and left. No detail provided as to who and when we were suppose to contact. Eventually the tour bus showed up. The tour guide Alan Chou spoke very good English and provided a lot of interesting information as we travelled through each area. He was very professional and good humored. All the hotels were first rate. Would love to return to Taroko George for some hiking in the future.
Excellent tour. Well organized. Tour guide very informative. Hotels were beautiful.
Wonderful tour, non stop. Eric the tour guide made the trip magical and Mr. Wu the driver made the trip safe!
This tour is well spread out in terms of number of places to see and a good selection of places of interest. Accomodations were great. Our hotels were the finest or close to the finest one can get in the area. Eric, our guide apart from being knowledgeable isn't boring unlike some tours we have experienced. He gave us constant updates on the weather of the places we are heading, showed us our route on the map and more than enough short breaks to do your business which is very important. Mr. Wu our driver was great, smooth and safe driving; you know are in good hands the moment you step in.
This tour is amazing. Everything was planned out well and the tour gives you a little bit of everything in Taiwan. Plus you can say you went and toured the ENTIRE COUNTRY of Taiwan in less than 1 week. Definitely worth the money for four 5-star hotels. Our tour guide Samson Wu from Edison Travel Service was very knowledgeable, informative, friendly and funny. One of the highlights of the trip was Sun Moon Lake. Beautiful views of the lake from Fleur de Chine (a truly prime example of 5 STAR HOTEL). Every floor and room had a view of the lake: from the main lobby, to each floor's lobby, and the rooftop lounge. This was my family's first trip to Taiwan and this tour made us want to see more. We will definitely come back for its natural wonders, friendly people, and of course the inexpensive and tasty food! GO VISIT TAIWAN!!!!
Hotels--Mostly excellent. good to start with 5 stars and end with 5 stars. In between the hotels were rated 5 stars but really are not--more like 3.5 to 4 stars--BUT fine for what is needed.
Driver- Excellent, friendly, fun and in general did what he could to get along with all the guests.
Tour guide- Knowledgeable and generally friendly, English adequate but as the day waned his pronunciation slipped and it was difficult to understand many of the late afternoon commentaries. Also, he needs a few more jokes that are not quite so sexist. Also, when describing the indigenous people (aboriginals) he only needs to tell us once that HOSITORICALLY they would kill invaders--not over and over again. It bordered on racist, even though i doubt he meant it that way at all.--we think he was trying to be funny--didn't work.
Tour activities--Excellent and the tour guide managed them very well.
Selection of sites and activities-Excellent
Food-since we were left to our own devices most of the days and nights, we were fine. Others were a little off put that they had to either eat at a buffet (overpriced for what you will eat), go to an in house restaurant, 7-11 or seek out a place on your own. The last day of the tour, the tour guide organized a group lunch which most all partook in and enjoyed themselves--this should happen at the beginning of the tour so people can get to know each other.
The tour was extremely well organized and our guide Erick was on top of all the details, making it relaxing for the tour participants. We saw most of the famous highlights around the island, and were out of the bus enough to enjoy the areas we visited, Erick was very knowledgeable and spoke very good English. He was careful to translate if questions were directed to him in Chinese, so that all the English speaking passengers had the benefit of all the information shared. Most of the videos and pictures shared on the tour were interesting and helpful to our understanding of the Taiwan. The accommodations were excellent, as were the breakfast buffets at each stop. We have no complaints about the tour at all.
