Meet at Zhishan MRT Station in the morning and take a taxi to the professional kitchen of your guide, an expert Taiwanese chef. In the instructional atmosphere of this private setting you’ll enjoy a hands-on cooking lesson followed by lunch.
Before you start cooking, head to nearby Shidong Market, a bright, clean and air-conditioned market located within walking distance to the kitchen. Here, you can learn about local agriculture and discover some of the fresh farm ingredients used in the culinary dishes you’ll make. Take in the sounds, sights and smells of this traditional Taipei market as your private foodie guide introduces you to important elements of Taiwanese cuisine.
After approximately an hour at the market, return to the professional demonstration kitchen to begin your hands-on cooking session under the guidance of your knowledgeable instructor. For another 1.5 hours you’ll practice traditional Taiwanese methods of food preparation as you create three different dishes from scratch.
Sample an array of flavors in Taiwanese cuisine while you cook from a set menu (see options in Itinerary). Learn to create distinct flavors in hot and sour soup; discover the key ingredient in making braised beef noodle soup; try your hand at an oyster omelet (a staple snack of the night market); or prepare three cups chicken, a Taiwanese signature dish. Then sit down to enjoy your creations!
After lunch, return to Zhishan MRT Station by taxi.
