Why Our Insiders Chose This Tour

The Greek ruins are the highlight of this tour. Still used to represent some important musical, theatrical and cinematic Italian performances. For lunch, you have to try the famous “Pur petti di tonno” (fresh tuna balls with pecorino cheese) and refresh yourself with a cold Almond Milk drink!

What You Can Expect

Syracuse Day Trip from Taormina

Visit the ancient Greek theater in Syracuse

Leave central Taormina in the morning and travel south along the coast to Syracuse, on the southeastern corner of Sicily. After relaxing in the comfort of your air-conditioned coach on your 1.5-hour journey, hop off and head out to explore the city with your guide!

First stop is Parco Archeologico della Neapolis, Syracuse’s famous archeological zone that’s home to a vast collection of Greek and Roman ruins from all over Sicily. After paying your entrance fee, head inside to see impressive excavations and well-preserved monuments like a Greek theater, Roman amphitheater and the Ear of Dionysius – an artificial limestone cave. Learn about fascinating structures like the Altar of Hieron II, where bulls were once sacrificed during ancient festivals, and hear tales of Syracuse in bygone days.

Leave the archeological zone and head over to the island neighborhood Ortygia, where most of Syracuse’s fascinating sights can be seen. Enjoy a break for lunch (own expense) and then explore the local attractions, discovering Piazza Archimede, a lively square that’s home to the Fountain of Aretusa – a carving of the Greek goddess’ maiden.

Gaze at the square’s Gothic palaces and then continue your stroll around the area to discover the delights of Piazza del Duomo – Syracuse’s central square. Pose for photos in front of Syracuse Cathedral, and admire at the squares other attractions: 17th-century Archbishop’s Palace, the Palace of Beneventano del Bosco and Il Lucertolone – the City Hall.

After exploring Ortygia and learning about the city’s history and sights, return to your coach for the journey north. Your tour then finishes back at the start point in central Taormina.

Well organised. The guides were exquisite. Congratulations and many thanks to them.

trip was wonderful, however, I wish I had known in advance that alfredo would be catering to several different languages. When I booked this trip I was under the impression that English was the tour language exclusively. for this reason, I will be a little skeptical in the future.

The tour and the guides were excellent. Just enough time to see everything, and free time to go back or relax at the port. Highly recommend it.

Our guide Alfredo was a very pleasant and knowledgeable man. He brought the buildings to life.

Interesting tour which we enjoyed. Would be nice if water had been supplied - a little tacky to not have some on board the bus. The Whisper that we had to pay for was far from state-of-the art. Could hardly hear the tour guide with all the static. I have used items like this on many tours and this was the worst we've encountered. Think it's time for an upgrade.

The archeological site was very interesting and we had and excellent guide who spoke very good English! We had an offer of a boat trip which included lunch which we declined and chose to wander round the town. The main square and duomo was very picturesque.

Very pleasant and interesting trip. The tour guide 'Eve' gave us lots of information and the pace of the tour was just right giving opportunities for drinks etc. I would recommend the 'Echo' headphone device so you don't miss any information and it only cost a few euros. Well worth the money
