Historic villages and rolling pastures. Discover the eastern coast of Tasmania on this six day cycling adventure. Pedal the scenic back roads and explore the picturesque Freycinet National Park. Accommodation each night will be in heritage guest houses and mansions. The back of a bicycle is the only way to see this part of Tasmania!

Your tour takes you from Launceston through rolling farmlands, to the spectacular east coast, then south to Hobart, exploring the historic villages along the way. Visit the beautiful, historic villages of Longford, Ross and Richmond, as well as the convict ruins on the Tasman Peninsula. Green hedges, views across rolling pastures to the distant Western Tiers or islands off the coast and sealed but infrequently used roads make for magnificent cycling on this six day trip. You will be cycling the most scenic sections of the route, with a minibus to carry you past the busier, less scenic roads.

Moderate Cycling - some gentle uphills and some short steep gradients, over 50 kilometers (31 miles) available. Steep gradients can be avoided by bus transfer.

    Weather:

The above itinerary should be seen as a guide only. Weather conditions normally remain stable over much of the summer, but it is important to note that weather can change rapidly in Tasmania and as such, weather conditions and unforeseen circumstances may cause the content of the trip to be altered or delayed. Your safety and enjoyment are paramount at all times.

    Trip Prerequisites:

Although having ridden a bicycle recently is an advantage, it is not essential and Tasmanian Expeditions guides will be there to assist and guide you. Fitness, however is important and cycling or walking on a regular basis prior to the trip will be beneficial.

    Health and Fitness Requirements:

Tasmanian Expeditions ask you to choose a trip within your capabilities. As with most activities, the fitter you are prior to departure, the more you will enjoy the trip. However, the majority of their trips only require you to be in reasonably good health.

Tasmanian Expeditions journeys are designed to suit most people, they are not endurance events for the super fit. Tasmanian Expeditions guides do have the ultimate say in whether or not a person is able to partake in an activity and if they feel that the person or other persons are put at risk, then they have the right to make alternative arrangements. If you have any doubts about your suitability for a particular trip, please contact Tasmanian Expeditions.

Gear List - What to Bring:

The equipment list below must be carefully followed and will provide the basis for Tasmanian Expeditions preliminary gear check. Several of the following items are available for hire in Tasmania (H). Please contact Tasmanian Expeditions reservations staff for the details of what equipment is for hire and the cost. Most outdoor shops will be able to provide extra advice in selecting any new clothing and equipment for this list. A deck of cards, a small musical instrument, a portable game or a good book is a valuable addition to the equipment list.

Please Note: Remember that you will need some money for the cycle trip to cover refreshments, admission fees, gifts, curios, etc.. enroute. Approximately $100 should be sufficient. If you are relying on bankcards Tasmanian Expeditions recommend that cash be withdrawn in Launceston as outlets on the east coast are rare.
