What You Can Expect

Tauranga Shore Excursion: Rotorua Highlights

Rotorua Historic Bath House, Rotorua Museum

Start your shore excursion with pickup from the cruise port in Tauranga, departing Mt Maunganui for a day trip through the North Island’s lake country, sprinkled with more than a dozen pristine lakes. En route to Rotorua, hear insightful live commentary on board the vehicle as you travel past the lovely waterfront and Bay of Plenty.

A short drive brings you to your first stop in the town of Te Puke, considered New Zealand's kiwifruit capital. Visit Kiwi 360, a horticultural theme park where you’ll taste kiwifruit products including juices, wines and liqueurs.

Next, drive past rolling farmland and pine tree forests then disembark for a brief stroll to Okere Falls, a small town popular for its waterfalls and lakefront views. Stop for lunch beside Lake Rotorua (own expense) before visiting the thermal wonderland of Whakarewarewa in the afternoon. Follow a Maori guide through a lunar-like landscape of hot springs and mud pools, and see the eruption of Pohutu Geyser. You’ll hear how the indigenous people used the jets of steam from the bubbling cauldrons for everyday functions.

Discover more Maori customs at a Maori village, starting with a traditional welcome. Enjoy a performance of song and dance, including the warlike haka. After, go sightseeing in Rotorua city. View the Government Gardens, historical bath house and natural hot springs at Whangapipiro (Rachel's Pool) as well as Lake Tarawera if time allows.

Complete your Rotorua shore excursion with the return to Mt Maunganui, following a scenic route via the Tauranga city center before crossing the harbor bridge to the port.

This tour is the best way to see some culture and sights of Tauranga on a short stay. The driver was very knowledgable of the area and the history. The van was also very comfortable. Would highly recommend to anyone visiting Tauranga.

I was in a group of about 22 travelers who booked this excursion prior to our cruise. I was a bit hesitant as it wasn't booked through Royal Caribbean. I was pleasantly surprised at how wonderful the entire experience was. Our Driver was fantastic and the entire day was the high light of our 13 night cruise. I want to thank Viator for a wonderful excursion!!! I will recommend you to everyone travelling to New Zealand.

Excellent tour, except when the driver forgot to lock the bus during our absence and someone's backpack was taken.

Driver is very knowledgable. It covered quite a bit of places. Everything they promised and more.We even got free kiwi ice cream at the kiwi plantation. I have no complaint at all. Booked it ahead before your cruise. Don't waste money with cruise company. They charge you double or even triple than viator.com

This was an excellent tour because our guide Jan was very knowledgeable about New Zealand
She answered all questions with authority and when she did not know something she did not try to make something up.
The trip to the geyser and springs in the Indian town were excellent.

Despite inclement weather, a very pleasant, varied tour. In particular, the visit to the Maori village was exceptional and not to be missed. Staff were both helpful and pleasant. Highly recomended.
