Read what other Viator.com travelers think about the Orkney Islands Day Trip from John O'Groats. What they loved, what they liked and what they think could be improved, it's all here to help you make the most of your next trip.
Our guide shared his vast amount of knowledge with humour and thoroughness. It would have been impossible to even approximate the same depth of Orkney experience by driving around on our own. A highlight of our trip.
Had the most fantastic day on Orkney!! Lucky enough to have brilliant weather and so could appreciate the beautiful views. We were given lots of interesting information by our bus driver, Stuart who was extremely informative and also very witty!! Timings for stops was perfect and the 4 of us who went on the trip felt we had a very comprehensive tour of the Islands in a day!! Thoroughly recommend!! We have also booked a trip with Viator in New York so hope it is as good.
Absolutely, thoroughly enjoyed our tour, it is definitely a "bucket list" to do.
Luckily we had a perfect day after a period of not so good weather. However our experience was even better than we had hoped. Scara Brae was, to me, absolutely spine tingling, to look into the very homes that families lived in, up to 5000 years ago was hard to comprehend. Their level of sophication was an education to us.
The Italian Chapel was far more interesting than we realised, and, also there was a twist, there was a sequel to the story that only occurred about 8 weeks previous. Sorry but you'll have to do the tour to find out. We had reservations as to whether the extra time taken to visit the Orkneys was going to be worth it - well it was one of the highlights of our 5 week UK holiday and wouldn't have missed it for the world.
Our trip to the Orkneys was absolutely wonderful in every way. What a magical, mystical place. Our enjoyment - apart from the incredible beauty and history - was largely due to our tour guide...I think Brian was his name ( he was awarded best Tour Operator in the UK last year). He was knowledgeable, professional, funny and gave us so much information about life in the Orkneys over many centuries and how it is today. We couldn't recommend this tour highly enough.
Apart from nearly missing our ferry, ( was told it was sailing at 9am, not 8:50am) we had had a wonderful day trip to the Orkney Islands. Our coach driver/ tour guide was brilliant. Very highly recommend the tour.
Whole trip very well organised and Stuart our coach driver was marvellous. Very knowledgeable and quite funny. Good value for money
Seeing a part of Orkney through the eyes of an Orcadian was great!
The weather was terrible, cold and couldn't see a thing for the
mist but the cheery bus driver made the day. The trip was
very informative and no-one could have tried harder than the
Brilliant, the driver was amazing and the commentary was exellent. The Island was beautiful and the ride
was so comfortable, a brilliant driver.
This was a well organised trip and excellent value for money. The ferry was comfortable with a friendly crew and the 50 minute crossing afforded wonderful views of the islands and wildlife. The coach was waiting and our driver conducted a most interesting 10 hour complemented by his knowledge and sharp wit. There was ample time for breaks and plentiful stops. I thoroughly recommend this as an introduction to the fascinating islands of Orkney.
We had a great day on this trip. Everything was well organised and the tour guide very professional. We were able to see quite a few different aspects of the Orkneys and learnt a great deal. Our favourite place was the Italian Chapel, a very moving story about a beautiful little Nissan hut.
Great! The driver/guide Stephen(?) was a hoot. And very informative.
Wonderful tour round the island.Coach driver was highly knowledgeable of all things concerning the island and added his own wit and humour to the the very interesting continuing talk he gave us as we toured the very interesting sights.Thoroughly well worth a visit and highly recommended.
Lovely day out, interesting tour and an excellent guide. Thank you Stuart.
Excellent tour. VERY well organized....and the driver/tour guide was great. A new and very clean tour bus. Lots of local knowledge and a fair bit of good humour! It is a long day....but with plenty of breaks along the way. I really don't think we missed anything on the islands - so a very productive way of seeing the big sites. Well done team - highly recommended.
We really enjoyed our trip to Orkney, our driver/ guide was very knowledgeable, and willing to share with all.
The weather was not the best, but he made the day, very interesting
Stuart, the driver/ guide was excellent. I am not surprised that he won the "top UK tour guide" award in 2013. He skillfully truncated the tour when high winds on The Pentland Firth meant we had to leave early and come back by the car ferry to Gills. However, the shortened tour was a major disappointment for me as it meant rushing around Skara Brae and Kirkwall. I would have preferred a longer tour over 2 days, with an overnight stop on the islands, that took in more Neolithic sites; if you decide to offer one, please let me know! For pre and post trip accommodation at John O' Groats I can thoroughly recommend The John O' Groats Guest House: very comfortable accommodation, extremely helpful owners and wonderful cooking.
A most enjoyable and informative tour. Thoroughly recommended for all.
Tour Guide and Coach Driver Stuart David provided commentary throughout the day and his wealth of local knowledge kept us entertained and amused. Easy paced tour and did'nt feel rushed at any time. Wonderful experience and would highly recommend this tour for anyone who has a full day to spare whilst in John O'Groats
Great time. Sail and bus excellent. Driver fantastic! Knew everything, so interesting. Thank you, will recommend this.
A great day tour! Wonderful scenery and a terrific explanation given by a very friendly and humorous guide!
