We spent at least 6 hours on the bus for this tour, which was a real drawback. In addition, our tour guide's English was poor, and he did not share much along the way as we were traveling on the bus. When he spoke about the sights we were seeing, he talked facing away from the group, so he was hard to hear. Kegon Waterfall is no big deal, but the lake and the setting around it were beautiful.

Nikko is about 2 hours outside of Tokyo. Most of the time is spent on the bus rather than actually seeing the sights. If you are visiting Kyoto, I would recommend skipping the trip to Nikko.

The Toshogu Shrine is absolutely amazing and a definite must-do when in Japan; however, this tour only provides you a very limited time at the shrine, 1 hr if traffic goes your way. I would suggest, unless you only have a short time and really really want to do the Kegon Waterfall, that you do a day trip from Tokyo by yourself and explore the shrine in depth and then the town of Nikko. I cannot comment on the Kegon Waterfall, as by the time we got up there, the clouds had rolled in and it was completely covered. The Lake Chuzenji stop was a brief 5-minute smoke stop. Whilst the lake was beautiful, it does not compare to the lakes you will see in New Zealand or Switzerland, so it can be skipped.

Definitely a bit fast-paced. It was hard to spend a reasonable amount of time appreciating these destinations, especially when competing with numerous other tour groups for space. Nikko definitely should be done as a day all on its own.
