Bosphorus Cruise and Egyptian Bazaar

After a short visit to the famous Egyptian Bazaar join an unforgettable excursion starting between two continents, Europe and Asia. The cruise will take you along the latest palaces of Ottomans, the Dolmabahce and Beylerbeyi, as well as 19th and 20th century, beautiful wooden Kiosks. Afterwards you can choose to visit the Sadberk Hanim Museum or the 15th century Rumelihisar Fortress.

The Egyptian Bazaar was built in 1660 by Hatice Sultan with the taxes collected from Cairo for the trade of Egyptian commodities, especially herbs and spices. The domed bazaar is L-shaped and belongs to the complex of the Yeni Valide Mosque. The air here is filled with the enticing aromas of cinnamon, caraway, saffron, mint, thyme and every other conceivable herb and spice.

Rumelihisar Fortress was built by Sultan Mehmet the Conqueror in 1452, the year before he conquered the city. The castle is situated at the narrowest point of the Bosphorus and the object was, in corporation with the castle on the other side, Anadolu Hisar, to cut the city off from communication with the possible aid from the Black Sea. In this object it was perfectly successful, but after the fall of the city it had no military function, and the north tower was used as a prison.

Sadberk Hanim Museum is located up the Bosphorus and shortly before Buyukdere, the collection of an Armenian civil servant fills two charming 19th century wooden villas. The larger of the two villas belonged to the Armenian, who became a politician and died in the great Beyoglu fire of 1922. His collection was put together in memory of Sadberk Hanim, wife of millionaire businessman Vehbi Koc.

A museum recently expanded to include a new collection of archeological exhibits. This is the oldest section, and includes sixth-millenium BC mother goddesses. In the ethnography section, there are maternity and circumcision beds, clothing and jewelry.

If you wish to be picked up at Istanbul port you must advise the cruise line, ship name, docking and departure time in the Special Requirements box, at time of booking. Please allow 30 minutes from cruise arrival time to disembark and meet the tour. Please note, you may be picked up from the cruise port and dropped off at a city hotel or vice versa.
