Venice Shore Excursion: Murano Glass and Burano Lace Tour

Murano Glass and Burano Lace Tour

When your cruise ship docks in Venice, enjoy a shore excursion to discover two of Venice’s famous islands. Your full-day tour starts with a short ride to Murano by boat. Famed for its stunning Murano glass products, the cluster of little islands that comprise Murano are as popular for their glassmaking heritage as they are for their attractiveness.

With your guide, head straight to a glassblower's workshop for a behind-the-scenes look at a Murano glassmaker in action. You'll learn how finished glass is carefully prepared and made. Watch the silica sand turn to glass, discover how the bright colors (typical of Murano glass) are achieved and hear all about working as a glassblower in Murano! You'll have time to spend at leisure on Murano, a great opportunity to browse the workshop's impressive glass art collection.

Next, head to the neighboring island of Burano, where you'll be greeted by its vibrantly colored fishermen's houses. Just as Murano is famous for its glassmaking, Burano is famous for its lacemaking. Visit a local workplace to see the island's craftswomen at work. Burano lace is the finished product of a painstakingly precise textile craft. Your guide will talk about the history of the exquisite Venetian lace and explain how the handcrafted finery is sadly becoming a dying art.

Before your half-day trip comes to an end, you can visit the fascinating Burano Lace Museum (Museo del Muretto), or spend your time exploring the colorful little streets, taking photos or browsing the shops for a lace keepsake!

Worry-free Shore Excursion:
We will ensure your excursion ends with ample time for you to return to the Venice port for your ship’s departure. In the extremely unlikely event your ship has departed, we will arrange for transportation to the next port-of-call. If your ship is delayed and you are unable to attend this activity, your money will be refunded. See our terms and conditions for full details.

This was amazing. The glass at Murano was beautiful. The colors on the island of Burano were vibrant. The lace shop we visited had great prices and selections.

Excellent Tour, Excellent and very Knowledgeable Guide - Value for money!!

4 star rating: Recommended October 2014

Lovely to see Burano with all it's brightly painted houses. The glass blowing demonstration on Murano was most interesting. Shopping time in both places is limited on this tour. If you have time for a more in depth visit take one of the regular vaporetto runs from Venice. Our guide was excellent and spoke excellent English. She added value to the tour with information about the Venice lagoon and other islands we passed during the boat trip.

I had a lovely time on this trip. In the end, I was the only person so I got one to one attention!

3 star rating: Worth doing May 2015

In my opinion we needed more time in each island. There was not enough time to explore other shops or sit down and have a snack. There was only time to buy in the shop where the Murano demo took place. By the time i exit you had to get back on the boat to continue. In other words it was very rushed.

It felt like there was a hard sell with this tour. First at the Murano factory we went to - and there are many on the island. We only had time to see one. I enjoyed watching the glass blowers and they talked about the history of the art in Venice. Burano was charming and there was a bit more time to explore and we didn't feel trapped in the lace shop.

It's good to know about the work people do with the glass in Murano and the lace work in Burano but it was ok.

2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better October 2014

The tour guide was wonderful. The Murano portion was limited and very disappointing We were given limited time and stuck in just the Murano Glass factory gift shop not allowing us to explore the island or other shops. Although they stated there was no pressure to buy, the salement hounded us at every piece we lokked at. yhis made us uncomfortable and runed the experiance. BURANO WAS OK BUT I ONLY WENT BECAUSE IT WAS INCLUDED IN THE TRIP.
