Our tour guide dropped us off at Spitz, where we boarded a boat that took us to Melk. We floated down the Danube River, which is not blue by the way. Haha. It's more like green. But the scenery was amazing and to an extent, it was truly romantic. Sunny, but romantic don't forget to bring sunscreen and a hat. I thought the boat ride would've been EVEN MORE romantic if they blasted the Blue Danube music as we floated down the river. That would've been the icing on the cake. There were so many picture taking opportunities! Beautiful landscaping, castles, endless vineyards and picturesque villages. The Benedictine Abbey was such a beautiful place. One could spend the entire day there just taking pictures.
The wiener schnitzel at The Stifts Restaurant in Melk is absolutely delicious!! You MUST try it. Your trip would've been a complete waste if you don't order this dish!! I've tried several wiener schnitzel in restaurants all over Vienna and nothing really compared to the excellence I've tasted in Melk!! Really! Portion was huge but it was so delicious that I finished it all. I would definitely recommend this tour!! But go during the summer months.

This was our very first tour on our visit to Europe, and it was excellent. We are so glad we chose this relaxing way to see this part of Austria. Our guide on the bus spoke five different languages and did a great job of bringing history alive. The tour through the Abbey was a great finale.

My wife loved this trip. It's really nice, the boat trip was nice and relaxing, and we loved the wine they served on the boat. The highlight of the tour was the Abbey; the tour guide was a nice charming person.

The day was handled in a very professional manner. Everyone concerned was extremely helpful and pleasant. The bus was clean and well kept and the boat portion on the river was wonderful. There was commentary of important points along the way.

An absolute highlight. There is nothing quite like floating leisurely down the Danube on a sunny day, taking in glorious scenery on the way to the beautiful monastery at Melk. Strongly recommended, possibly the best day trip from Vienna.

This was a great tour, again communications was poor in the sense that we did not realize we had a choice of eating in two places.

Beautiful scenery, even in winter. The boat was comfortable and clean, with food and drinks available as well as indoor and outdoor seating. Very informative tour at the Benedictine Abbey.

Definitely worth doing

This trip is definitely worth doing! The Abby at Melk is absolutely beautiful! The boat ride on the Danube was wonderful! The bus ride to the boat departure shows you a beautiful side of Vienna and is very informative. My only complaint with this tour is when you get to the place of departure you are also there with many other groups doing other tours. There are numerous buses and it's very chaotic and the tour guides were not helpful during this process. When you get there, this tour is the Wachau Tour. The bus does not say Danube Valley Tour. Once we finally boarded the correct bus and started the tour, the tour guide we had was very informative, but not very friendly or helpful the rest of the day. So, just be prepared for the chaos at the very beginning and don't expect your tour guide to be very friendly. BUT, enjoy the beautiful area, river, and the Abby, it is definetly a MUST see!

The tour itself was wonderful, but I use a walker and was not allowed to view a village on one of our stops by the tour guide. He seemed angry that I went on the tour against his wishes, he had told me when I arrived that I would not be able to make the whole tour as I would have to walk two miles, which was not true and I did just fine. The bus driver was very nice and helpful, though.

The gathering at the main station was boring with large number of people plus the rigidity of the returning point. Some actually passed their hotels and needed to walk back. I think the bus can have few stops on the way for whoever wish to descend till the end station.
