The landscape on the Danube Valley is beautiful but it is a long day. Our advice is take this trip when you are planning to stay more than a weekend in Vienna or you are a real lover of baroque art, that's what the abbey is about.

It seemed to drag at some points.

The pick up from the hotel was useful. However we then had to change from minibus to a coach, then drive to another part of Vienna and change again. Organisation at this point was poor, no information on which coach. The driver never even told us we had to get off and change coach. Once we got on the correct coach the trip was very pleasant, with the host pointing out sites of interest etc. Long wait in the open it was raining for the boat. No one had told us it was a restaurant boat, no seats other than if you ordered food and drink. Trip to Melk excellent! The monastery was beautiful, the guided tour was rather quick but good. Host on coach spoke several languages very well, but very defensive about us being dropped off in Vienna centre rather than return transfers to hotel. This ought to be mentioned on booking. As several people on the coach thought return transfers were included.

Too much bus time and not enough boat time.

This trip was quite enjoyable. We took a few buses to, then arrived at the boat. The boat arrived and the journey was quite nice, although I would not classify it as a romantic cruise by any means. There were lots of children and just general tourists on board. We found out later that the trip was sold under many titles. We then got to the Abbey, which was quite nice. The service in the restaurant was very quick and the food was lovely. We had to meet our guide again for the tour of the Abbey, which was grand. We were very tight on time, as we had to meet back up at the bus as soon as the tour ended, which meant we did not have time to have a look at the church itself, which was a shame, because the church was lovely. All in all, it was a pleasant day, but not as romantic as we had hoped it to be. I wouldn't recommend it to couples trying to have some special time together, as that's what we wanted and it kinda ruined it for us.

The river was good. The guide and program were not that great. He told us not to eat on the boat, while in fact that would have been the best moment. We ate at the restaurant after the boat ride instead of using that time to tour the area! It was just the same food at the same price.

I would've liked to visit the village of Durnstein as well.

On the positive side, this day trip was a great way to see the countryside. We especially loved the abbey and getting away from the city. However, the tour was quite crowded, and the bus ride was long. The boat trip was also very crowded, and the food was very expensive. The real drawback was that upon returning to Vienna, we were not returned to our hotel. We were dropped off in the middle of the city, without direction on how to get back to our hotel. The cab ride back wasn't cheap. We felt like once the tour was over and they had our money, they didn't care anymore. That seemed to overshadow the nice day we had had.

Nice tour, boring scenery and did not like the abbey at Melk. Try the Rhine. Coffee stop village was cute and it was winter so we did not do the boat trip.

Our visit was in the wintertime, so no boat tour.

The boat trip was not romantic and with very little commentary, it was boring. The waitress on the Prince Eugen refused to take our lunch order and was rude. Too much time at Melk. I would not have done this trip as I saw and learned little about the Danube Valley

Having only 5 days in Vienna I wished I had not wasted time or money on this trip. I had been on other Viator tours and loved them, but this one fell flat. First of all, your guided tours on the bus and boat are in five languages English, German, Spanish, French and Italian. So, you get just a snippet here and there about the culture of the area or the history of what you're looking at. Our tour guide happened to be a very old man with snippy attitude. He was a bit of snob and very curt. Perhaps if we had a different tour guide, my experience would have been a bit better.
The boat ride itself was fine enough, but it's very basic. You simply sit, look out a window, and if you wish you can order a drink or a bite to eat. It's rather dull. The Abby, however, is extremely beautiful. I do not regret seeing Melk. Thankfully, they separated the languages at the Abby and the five different groups got their private tour of the Abby. I learned and saw a lot at the Abby. It was the highlight of the day.
