What You Can Expect
Highlights of your 2.5-hour walking tour include Stephansdom (St Stephen's Cathedral), an iconic city landmark and symbol of Viennese freedom, and the Sacher Cafe, famous for its Sacher Torte chocolate cake. Another equally classic Vienna attraction that you will see is Heldenplatz (Heroes' Square), where Adolf Hitler made his 1938 annexation speech during WWII.
Before your Vienna tour finishes, you'll enjoy brief visits to the Spanish Riding School and Hofburg Imperial Palace, which was once home to the powerful Hasberg dynasty, rulers of the Austro-Hungarian empire.
Vienna is a city made for walking, with small streets and sudden vistas that link together the better-known sites. As such, the Vienna City walking tour is the perfect guided walk for everyone from first-timers to frequent visitors.
We have always done a walking tour in all the European cities we have visited and this rates as one of the best. Although being nearly 70 and probably over twice the age of our companions, our guide seemed to pace the tour to suit everyone and we felt confident that we were not holding things up. She is a lovely lady, full of knowledge and the all-important enthusiasm. Her opinions and little stories brought the history to life. The time passed very quickly and this tour is well worth the cost. We travelled to Vienna by a local bus from Bratislava and took a taxi (approx 10 mins) to the Viator office. We first used Viator for trips in Alaska and since then would always look at what they had to offer first. Their website is excellent and booking online is so easy.
We really liked our walking tour, and especially enjoyed our guide. He was funny, informed and helpful. Since he was a native of Vienna, he could give us good insight.
