Second time but still enjoyed and loved performance specially the Asian guy amongst the orchestra...
Incredible, what a venue to see Johan Strauss Concert. The orchestra, singers and dancers were exceptional.
The evening at the Kursalon was excellent. We had excellent seats and the orchestra, singers and dancers were superb. The only down side was the meal before. It is very difficult to eat a three course meal in about 50 minutes. We would have preferred no meal and perhaps a glass of wine at half time in the package. However an excellent eveing for our Wedding Anniversary.
I'm not an avid classical music fan, so the somewhat hokey addition of dance made the evening better for me, but my traveling companion would have liked more music. I was happy with the location of the dinner.
Unfortunately there was really no need for a guide. We simply had to find an obscure location to meet the tour guide who only told us to go around the corner to eat at a pub style restaurant. There was no explanation of just how famous this place was. It was an accident that my wife saw it in her tour magazine after we returned from this vacation that this place was very old and famous. We thought this was just a regular place when we ate there. If the guide would have given us a little explanation about the place we would have appreciated it more while we were there. We did have some good company with a few nice brits who were vacationing. As for the concert, what a joke. We were put in a van and brought to the concert hall and given some tickets, very poor seats in the back. The hosts herded you like cattle into a room with chairs so close to each other it was like being packed into a sardine can. We also had the pleasure of listening to disco tech music from the first floor outside our second story concert room. It stopped as the concert started. We left at the first pause. The hosts who seated people were stern and not very accommodating. It felt like the KGB was seating us. They told you to follow them and sit! The viewing was horrible. They were trying to have every tiny seat occupied. Really was not that eloquent or comfortable. Also, the music was okay. It was more playful and entertaining than serous and exacting as we expected. In summary, the dining was okay and the concert format ruined any opportunity for the musicians to be appreciated.
We were all quite disappointed in this outing. The meal was so-so. What was called Weiner schnitzel was not veal, not pork, but chicken. There were no veggies, just potatoes. Dessert was fine. But the big disappointment was the show. It was not at all like the picture the website showed. The 8 or so performers were not in the beautiful outfits shown, and the room was not as shown. All musicians were on one level. Our seats were terrible! In a room of 700 to 800 people, we were herded to the very last row and told the other seats were for people who paid more and we only paid for cheap seats. All in all, a real disappointment.
The concert itself was great, but the seating was extremely uncomfortable, to the point where my husband suggested leaving at the intermission. The room was also very warm. Dinner was all right, though nothing to write home about.
