2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better

Our family loved this trip and loved riding on the open top buses. The only problem we had was catching the busses at the stops that we made. Many times the busses just went past us and did not pick anyone up. We were stranded at the Lincoln Memorial for an extra 1 1/2 hours because we weren't getting picked up. When we did get picked up they just kept telling us that the busses were over heating and not keeping up. We were also told that some of the busses were in accidents, while one bus would come around just to sell tickets and not pick up passengers. Seems like their could have been some more busses on the routes so we didn't have to miss some of our vacation always waiting on a bus.

The tour buses didn't run as often as promised (every 20 minutes) but rather if you were lucky every half hour. They were not as often as other tour groups that perform the same service. There was absolutely no way to know when the last pick up at any stop would be. Even after asking the driver as we exited he gave a very rough estimate, which was 26 minutes off. The buses don't run late enough. We tried to call the company to find out whattime they would be picking up at Arlington Cemetary on Saturday and got the run around by their automated system no matter what we did we could not get a person or an answer!!!!!!!! When you asked questions of the driver or the assistant who occassionally was on the bus they acted extremely put out. The airconditioners were either out of order or leaking. Lastly they never slowed down or paused as constantly announced for pictures.

Finding the stops was very confusing. When I rang the number provided they assured me a stop was on a street but we searched high and low on that street and there was not a stop to be found! There were also 2 different red open top buses so this added to the confusion. Once we got on the bus however it was fine but initially very difficult to find.

Due to the volume of traffic the trip took far too long to get anywhere especially when doing the hop on hop off. Buses were infrequent and did not run late enough.

I and my family were REALLY disappointed in this tour.

First of all, we arrived at Union Station and went to the front of the Postal Museum to meet the tour as instructed. When I saw no sign for the tour, I called the number that was the designated "local contact" on my email confirmation. They were supremely unhelpgul and furthermore said they had no knowledge of Viator - which then made me panic that I had been swindled.

By luck we then saw an open top tour bus directly in front of Union Station. We made our way and asked the offical reps who were there if we were in the right place. Thankfully they acknowledged our receipt and we got our tickets issued.

The tour itself took us to the promised places. But what was really disappointing was the recorded commentary. The people in charge of it did a very poor job of keeping the commentary up to date with what we were seeing. Most of the times the commentary started up again, it started in the wrong place, referring to sights we already saw. It was then hastily stopped in mid-sentence and started back up again, most times again in the wrong place. By the time the commentary got to the correct place, most times we had already passed by the historical site. It was a very frustrating experience. In this digital age I cannot imagine that syncing the commentary with what we are seeing outside, or starting it up at particular points, can be so difficult.

The driver was also quite aggressive - almost knocking a small tree over in Georgetown. The low branches that you face on the top of the bus on the route are quite dangerous also.

A disappointing experience overall.

Three routes didn't interlink very well.We thought the buses ran until 6pm but they stopped at 5pm which seemed ridiculously early. On our second day the first bus was over half an hour late arriving. After a few stops the driver announced he was changing his route to make up time and we had to get off his bus and get on the next bus behind to get to Georgetown, Some of the drviers did not seem to drive well - very jerky when stopping - throwing people around. Not very impressed overall. Would have been much cheaper to use local metro trains / buses.

We were disappointed, the bus didn't go by our hotel so had to get metro to Arlington. Also we walked miles looking for bus stop at Washington memorial. It was definately not worth $35 for us

Audio could hardly be heard over air-conditioning and too hot to sit outside. Unclear about what sites matched what stop, could not really see sites from lower level. The little of what was heard was very poor, garbled sound quality and not that informative. Was told by employee at stop that the bus had earphones for my hearing impaired mother- once onboard, no earphones.. We did not bother using the second day- we took taxis instead... I have been on great bus tours in New York, Paris and Rome- they all had headsets and informed guides for similar prices- DC could improve...

We had a terrible time with the tour broken bus, broken recorder that's suppose to point out highlights, air condition was broken on one of the bus, inexperience driver that was swapped out. We sat on the bus waiting for this and that instead of going through the streets and see the sights of DC. It was very frustrating and I had to deal with a toddler who just wanted the bus to move!!

It was the worst tour I've ever been on. Taped recordings describe the sights, but aren't coordinated with location on tour, so "ahead and to your right" was often times 2 blocks behind or 4 blocks ahead. It was nearly impossible to figure out.
