Really enjoyed the trip up and down the Potomac as well as Mt. Vernon. The boat was leisurely and there was lots to see on the ride. Mt. Vernon is a huge place so be sure to wear good walking shoes! Don't stop to eat or rest as there is so much to see that before you know it its time to get back on the boat. No eating on the Mt. Vernon grounds, we packed a small lunch in a backpack and ate on the boat coming home. The boat also sells small meals (like hot dogs) and beverages (their breakfast sandwiches we're pretty good too). We'll go back again someday to see all we missed! We've used Viator across the globe, they've never disappointed us.
Fun and relaxing. Downside: Be prepared to heat your food n the microwave if you choose to purchase food on the boat.
Great tour! Not enough time!!! One of the most enjoyable parts was the actor who played the part of George Washington. He came out to the lawn, answered questions and stayed in character for all answers! The museum was VERY well done, informative and such. Just the running films of George Washington were not that great in the little theaters. Need to be refreshed. But only ONE boat runs out and back to New York each day so BE ON TIME. We almost missed it because we forgot a backpack at the cafeteria which was 1/4 of a mile up the hill!!
This was the perfect tour for the 2nd day of our three day tour of Washington, DC. Walked six hours the first day of our visit, so sitting down for the river cruise was a joy. The visit at Mt. Vernon was a highlight of our trip. The dock where the boat leaves DC from is very easy to get to using the subway and walking a few blocks.
We really enjoyed our tour. The only exception was when we got to the Pier, we were told the boat was cancelled due to the boat receiving incorrect fuel and they had to drain and clean the tanks. We were taken by bus instead. To the company's credit, they put out coffee, fruit and muffins while we waiting for the bus to arrive and they told us we would be credited for the boat cost; the cost of the bus was free to make up for our disappointment. The tour of Mt. Vernon was fabulous and I would love to return again some time.
Beautiful trip down the Potomac...very laid back. Lots of history my husband and I had never heard before and beautiful grounds to walk around leisurely.
Our tour In the Footsteps of George Washington was very enjoyable. The cruise was comfortable and relaxing. The estate is beautiful and our experience was quite moving. I would definitely recommend this tour!
The boat ride from Pier 4 in DC to Mount Vernon provided memorable views of heavily wooded, beautiful Virginia. A host of docents enlightened our group of 22 about the history of and daily living realities at Washington's lovely home. Perhaps the highlight might well have been our visit to the Washington Education Center that houses what we believed the best "museum" that we experienced on our 6 day holiday in the nation's capital. It traces the life of Washington from his boyhood with photos, films, artifacts, quotes and tableaus. All in all, we highly recommend Mount Vernon via Viator.
This was my favorite tour on our recent vacation to DC!! There's so much history here at Mt. Vernon. The property is in excellent condition, the tour of Washingtons house was great, many original pieces still in the home and on the property. You can even sit on a rocking chair on the front porch and enjoy the beautiful view of the Potomic River! There's a museum on site with more original pieces and history on the Washingtons. Don't miss this wonderful historic place...a "must" see!!!
It was great to walk in the footsteps our our great president. I was again amazed at how intelligent he was and how ordered his life was. It was made even more amazing because he was self taught. The cruise was VERY well done and narrated.
